Gliese 581 is an M2.5V red dwarf star located 20.40 ly away in the constellation Libra. It has the variable star designation HO Librae. In 2005, an exoplanet was found around the star.

Gliese 581 b is a Neptune-mass planet. It was the fifth planet to be discovered around a red dwarf star. Little is known about it besides some of its orbital parameters and a lower limit on its mass.
