Glenn Humplik

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glenn Humplik (born ca. 1966) was a long time co-host to the cult television hit "The Tom Green Show." Early in Glenn's career, he hosted an industrial music radio show on Ottawa University's radio station CHUO. While working on the Tom Green show in Ottawa with Rogers Television, then later with MTV, Glenn continued his career as a programmer for Nortel. Tom Green would sometimes beg Glenn during the show to give up his job and come to work full time on the Tom Green Show. Tom, during a show with MTV, once threatened, in good humour, to give the television audience Glenn’s work phone number if he didn't come attend a taping of a show.

Glenn was often the butt of Tom's jokes, more so as his series The Tom Green Show progressed, and especially during the MTV years, going so far as to release Glenn's personal e-mail and home phone number (His number was actually released by accident, as Tom had it written on a mechanism in which he could turn panels over to reveal his number one-by-one while the rest faced the other side. Unfortunately for Glenn, this side faced Times Square, and so many people looking through the window had access to the number. Tom publicly apologized after realizing his error and taking the sign down).

Glenn came back as co-host of "The New Tom Green Show," which, while more laid back, still focused largely on pranks at Glenn's expense. A weekly segment of the show was Where Will Glenn Sleep?, wherein the audience chose three different possibilities for Glenn's sleeping location that night, all of which were terrible. Viewers voted through the website on MTV.com. Also, during an appearance by Andy Dick, Glenn and Andy wrestled and Glenn got his thumb broken. Andy came back the next day unexpectedly to apologize.

Glenn played guitar in the electro-punk band Daiquiri from 1999 to 2001 and played on their album 'Third World Budget' released in 2000. Glenn left the band for Los Angeles in 2001 and the band continues as a duo to this day. No word of a reunion at this point.

Glenn has not made any appearance on Tom Green's popular website or new live internet show, "Tom Green Live," although when fans ask about Glenn, Tom replies that he is not legally allowed to talk about him. This item has become somewhat controversial amongst Tom Green's fanbase.

Currently, Glenn runs an internet blog site at http://www.humplik.com called Humplik Lives Here.

In June of 2006, Glenn brainstormed the idea of a "Fat Shame" diet, and is currently racing a friend to fitness. Possibly because he is afraid of losing, Glenn has resorted to writing lyrics to a derogatory song entitled "Stef with an F, I'm a Real Fatty" in hopes of discouraging his opponent. At least one dietitian has expressed her view that "this race is a horrible idea".

Glenn is a frequent caller to "The Mike and Phil Show" an internet radio 'talk show' hosted by Phil Giroux and Mike H. the show airs online at mikeandphil.com[1] every Wednesday at 9pm EST.

[edit] Current Relationship with Tom Green

Public knowledge is scarce regarding about Tom and Glenn's current relationship and the circumstances that have led to Humplik not making any appearances on Tom Green's popular website or new live internet show, "Tom Green Live". When fans ask about Humplik, Green replies that he is not legally allowed to talk about him. Some speculate that Humplik wishes to have a life out of the spotlight while others posit Green's reasoning for claiming the illegality of his mentioning Humplik traces to a lawsuit settled out of court forbidding Tom from associating Glenn with his comedy.

Further clues to their current relationship are sporadic and ambiguous, with little meaningful information to glean. However, on September 6, 2004, Glenn posted:

After spending the week setting up Tom's new site (and blog, tomgreen.com) I discovered that blogger.com was more suited for me. Check out Tom's new site by the way, if you hate it don't tell me, i'm the sensitive type. He's been pretty consistent putting up new stuff in his blog. Finally, after years of bugging him to get on the internet he's finally got the addiction i've had since 1993. [2]

Recently, Tom Green phoned-in to an Internet radio show called "The Mike And Phil Show" hosted by Mike H. (singer of Daiquiri) and Phil Giroux (former co-host of the The Tom Green Show). Glenn was appearing on the show as a special guest at the time of the phone call, when he decided to leave the show as soon as Mike chose to answer Tom's phone call. The controversy surrounding that event led to the show being cancelled. A week later, Glenn retaliated against the show by beginning his own Internet radio show.

Glenn is also a contributor/writer on industry101.com [3], a business satire website.
