Talk:Gladin'
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When glading it's not uncommon to also lose wheels. Dented rims look funny :-).
[edit] Importance?
What importance does this have outside of the three "Founding Fathers" - is this an official sport, or is this just something made up by this guy and put here with supporting links to sites that he also owns - Looks very questionable.

- I have the same questions, which is why I added {{importance}} to the top of the article. I'm planning to give it a little while to see if it improves, and AfD it if it doesn't. It's relatively new, though, so I thought I'd give it a little time. --Icarus (Hi!) 21:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

- Picked up this article after it was added as a see also in another article in my watch list and decided to send this one packing to AFD. Should be a speedy delete but I will give it the benifit of the doubt since a couple other editors would like to give it some time.--I already forgot 05:31, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
In my opinion, this article is currently quite lacking in importance. It is merely a public display of blatant disregard for the environment, immature actions involving the abuse and damage of others' property, and conceived self-importance for an activity that deserves little to no notice.
I realize that this alone does not constitute its removal from Wikipedia; however, the information as presented is both incriminating to persons involved, and is also false (by their own admission):
"12/13/2006 It has come to our attention that our WikiPedia entry, which was mostly a gag, has been taken too seriously and is now spiraling out of control. We would like it to be known that we, also, do NOT condone the destruction of the natural lands of Florida, or any other state for that matter. We do admit that we may have been a little over-zealous and may have hyped up what we do, but the hype was all in good fun and no harm was intended. We do glade, yes, but not as it has been turned into. We stick to paved and gravel roads that are maintained by the state and/or county. We value the lives and habitats of wildlife that live in the everglades and would do nothing to ever intentionally harm them. The monsters that we have been turned into by the off-roading community is completely untrue and not an accurate depiction of us. If you will look closely at our entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladin). You will see that there are NO destroyed cars, and in all the pictures, we are in-fact on a road. We have never destroyed a rental car in the persuit of exploration. There is no need for the hate mails and personal threats. We are a peaceful group of driving enthusiasts and mean no harm to anyone. -END-"
This is quite a different take than the original impression conveyed by the article. As such, I'd like to suggest that it was obviously posted in jest and as a means of self-promotion and narcissism. I ask that this article be removed before it causes any more damage to the reputation of the people involved, and also the offroading community as a whole.

[edit] Illegal Off-roading
These are dumb kids bragging about illegal off-roading. The fact that they posted pictures of themselves, shows how dumb this article is. Mtxchevy 14:24, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

This should be removed, three guys bragging about trespassing and going offroad illegally, and destroying property, is unacceptable regardless of your views on offroad driving, It also destroys the substantial efforts made by people who are serious about the sport. And who make the effort to responsibly use the resources available to them.
Delete this page. Illegal activities of any kind should not be condoned on Wikipedia, and this article clearly glorifies illegal offroading that destroys land. I offroad, and I do it legally, as do the vast majority of my comrades. People like these kids give a bad name to the sport and severely hamper our ability to keep trails open, and to reopen closed trails.
- Inclusion in Wikipedia is based on the notability of the subject matter, not whether or not it's something that should be encouraged. After all, we do have articles on all sorts of crimes, including murder and rape. That said, the deletion discussion over at AfD is headed toward a consensus to delete. --Icarus (Hi!) 18:06, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
This puts a bad taste in the mouth of responsible off-roaders. These irresponsible kids should be taught a lesson by the law, and forced to do some time/work to fix the destruction that they are so proud of. As a responsible user of legal off road trails, it disgusts me to even see this. YeeP @ PBB.
