Glassport is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, approximately 10 miles (16 km) (direct) from the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers where they meet and form the Ohio river. Glassport lies alongside the Monongahela river in the "Mon valley". Municipalities in the river valley have suffered severe economic duress in the wake of the cessation of steel-making throughout the Pittsburgh region. In 1910, the population of Glassport stood at 5,540. In 1940, 8,748 people lived in Glassport. The population was 4,993 at the 2000 census.

(40.326919, -79.888693)According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.4 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (11.05%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 4,993 people, 2,187 households, and 1,355 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,147.5/km² (2,968.5/mi²). There were 2,405 housing units at an average density of 552.7/km² (1,429.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.24% White, 0.56% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 0.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.82% of the population.
There were 2,187 households out of which 23.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.2% were married couples living together, 15.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.0% were non-families. 33.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.87.
In the borough the population was spread out with 20.9% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 88.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.0 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $30,616, and the median income for a family was $37,364. Males had a median income of $35,631 versus $20,440 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $15,035. About 7.4% of families and 9.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.5% of those under age 18 and 8.9% of those age 65 or over.
