A by-election was held for the British House of Commons constituency of Glasgow Central on June 26, 1980.
On a turnout of 48%, the Labour Party held the seat.
The Social Democratic Party candidate had no connection to the SDP which later broke from the Labour Party, and achieved what was the lowest vote for any candidate in a Parliamentary election under universal suffrage.
