From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Give municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Vejle County on the Jutland peninsula in southeast Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 403 km², and has a total population of 14,090 (2005). Its mayor is Villy Dahl Johansen.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Give.

Neighboring municipalities are Jelling and Tørring-Uldum to the east, Nørre-Snede and Brande to the north, Grindsted and Billund to the west, and Egtved to the south.

The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes:

  • Gadbjerg Parish
  • Give Parish
  • Givskud Parish
  • Lindeballe Parish
  • Ringive Parish
  • Thyregod Parish
  • Vester Parish
  • Øster Nykirke Parish
  • Give Birk Parish
  • Enkelund Birk Parish

By January 1, 2007 Give municipality will cease to exist, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with Børkop, Egtved, Jelling, and Vejle municipalities to form a new Vejle municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 1,055 km² and a total population of 82,935 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
