Gisborne Boys' High School is one of the oldest schools in the Gisborne district. Once a co-ed school, going by the name Gisborne High School, the school separated to become Boys' and Girls' High School, sharing The Rectory, a boarding-type part of the schools to cater for out-of-town, rural or international students. Gisborne Boys' has a proud rugby tradition, with several All Blacks being former students. Rico Gear (1991-95) is a current All Black (2005,2006)
