Girona (province)

Girona (Catalan:Girona; Spanish: Gerona) is a province of eastern Spain, in the northern part of the autonomous community of Catalonia. It is bordered by the provinces of Barcelona and Lleida, and by France and the Mediterranean Sea.
598,112 people (2002) live in the province. Its capital is Girona, where just over an eighth of the population of the province lives. Some towns in Girona province include Figueres, Puigcerdà, Olot, Banyoles, Blanes, Ripoll, Camprodon.

Part of the territory of Girona, the municipality of Llívia is an exclave separate from the rest of Spain and surrounded by France.
