Girolamo Siciolante da Sermoneta

Girolamo Siciolante da Sermoneta (1521-c1580) was a Mannnerist painter active in Rome in mid 1500s. Native to Sermoneta, he was reputed to have been a pupil of Leonardo da Pistoia. His first known work is an altarpiece once in Valvisciolo, now in Palazzo Caetani in Rome. In Piacenza in 1545-46, he painted a Holy Family with Saint Michael. In 1548, he painted a Madonna with Six Saints for San Martino Maggiore in Bologna. In 1548-9 He completed in a Raphaelesque style with Jacopino del Conte fresoces on the Baptism of Clovis that Perino del Vega had left unfinished in the church of San Luigi dei Francesi in Rome. In 1560s, he paints a Life of the Virgin for San Tommaso dei Cenci and a Crucifixion for San Giovanni in Laterano, both in Rome. Also in Rome he paints in the Sala Regia, and a Martyrdom of Saint Catherine for Santa Maria Maggiore in 1568.
