"Girlfriends and Boyfriends" is the eighth episode of Freaks and Geeks. It was written by Patty Lin and Paul Feig and was directed by Lesli Linka Glatter. It first aired on January 17, 2000.

Nick begins making more aggressive advances towards Lindsay, most of which end up making her feel more disturbed than lovestruck. Tension is created between Sam and Bill when Bill is paired with Sam's crush, Cindy Sanders, as a Science partner.

The following scenes were edited out from the final cut of the episode, but can still be found on the series DVD.
- Kim and Lindsay in the bathroom. Kim tells Lindsay that all guys want sex all the time.
- Various takes of Harold Weir describing to Lindsay how he lost his virginity in Korea.
- Lindsay kissing Nick before he goes to class.
- An extended cut of Sam and Cindy walking to A1 Sporting Goods. Sam angrily discusses Bill. The scene then cuts to a sequence where Lindsay visits Nick in his basement. Lindsay confronts Nick about the subject of sex.
- A montage of Sam and Cindy selling yearbook advertisements. Cindy is very successful while Sam is very unsuccessful.
- Sam gets a telephone call from Cindy. Sam puts the phone down on the table while she talks and he eats Ding Dongs. (This was the original ending for the episode).
