[edit] Laurenzana

Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you improved the article on Laurenzana commune, and your help was very welcome. Give it back a check to see the way I standardised it, so, if you will be upgrading some further article about Italian communes, you'll have an idea of the standard format. Just an another note: as for WP:Manual of Style, words like "beautiful", "delightful", etc., or referring to reader as "you will see", "when you come" etc., are considered non-encyclopedical and must be removed. So kill them if you see one of them here around (sometimes these out of date forms of expression are from old Public domain encyclopedias). Thanks and see you soon!!!! User:Attilios

[edit] Reunion (genealogy software)

Gioto, why did you pull that overview information out of there? When detailing programs, there's usually a general description that goes along with the article. The one I had in there seemed succinct enough. GIMP and iPhoto have them, why not Reunion? Still running it on Windows 3.1? Impressive. --Schulte 15:42, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

  • If it sounded too much like an advertisement, you might as well go to iTunes, iPhoto and GIMP, then rip out their overviews as well. I'm just a long-time, satisfied user of the program and was surprised nobody had created an article for it. Further, the version history is linked to from each of those announcement links -- I didn't list everything, but rather hit a couple of the high points. If people wanted more about each version change, they can grab it. I definitely listed less than what appears about version history than what is found on the iTunes article. I think it's fine to stick around and remain in there, as should that overview. --Schulte 15:57, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
    • Gioto, you weren't stepping on my toes. I'm not riled, far from it. I was just curious about the reasoning behind why you thought the way you did (that chart company, while good, is shade toward the advertisement side -- good catch). If you were to crack open an encyclopedia -- what information about the topic would you expect to find? For me, it's an overview, some version history and that other stuff. Their absence in the article would leave me wanting to know more. Disagreements happen (read the Five pillars) -- plus we were all new at one time. Taking your issue to the Talk page would have been a good approach or connecting with the author directly would have been another. PS -- I don't have much knowledge, without researching, about other genealogy programs, so I don't anticipate me creating other articles along those lines... --Schulte 16:18, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Info Box for region

Gioto 01:05, 10 June 2006 (UTC) The Province info for Reggio Calabria does not seem to work? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggio_Calabria and see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Africo what do I do?

I edited Reggio_Calabria, is it fixed? I added a <br clear=all /> just above the Provinces template so it looks better. Use {{helpme}} again if that wasn't the problem.--Commander Keane 01:14, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes thankyou, wasn't sure how to do it. Gioto 01:17, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project

I'm currently cleaning up and adding info boxes to the existing italian towns before fixing the navigation boxes. Gioto 05:25, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Noticed your work on the Sicilian infoboxes. Great job - somone needed to start this tedious task. - AKeen 06:49, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Sadly, can't think of any shortcuts to this one. Lots of data entry. Maybe add it to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Sicily or List_of_Sicilian_municipalities task list - AKeen 07:03, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks AKeen I will look into itGioto 07:36, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Italian Wikipedia is a good source also seems from what I can understand [2] that they already did in Italian what I would like to do.

[edit] Creating Subpages

Hi Gioto, I noticed that you have a lot of links for personal reference on your talk page. If you want, you can create a subpage of your userpage where you can post links and notes to yourself. For example, I have a subpage for the Sicily project at User:AKeen/Sicily. All you have to do is put a slash after your username and create whatever page name you'd like at the new location. - AKeen 21:02, 20 June 2006 (UTC) Very handy see User:Gioto/Comuni thank you Gioto 06:26, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Italian communes

Hi Gioto! It seems I've finally someone sharing my tiring taks to add infobox to Italian communes. However, why do add or copy only some data? Probably you're not Italian, as info are available easily from the equivalents in it.wikipedia.org. Therefore I provide you translation of the fields needing for infoboxes in the English version:

  • Coordinates: add the infobox {{coor dm|21|21|N|33|34|E}} for example The first two numbers are in the Latitudine field, the last two are Longitudine
  • Altitudine = Altitude
  • Superficie = area_cityproper
  • Abitanti = populationdensity
  • Densità = populationdensitymetric
  • Nome abitanti = gentilic
  • Santo patrono = saint
  • Giorno festivo = day

For the "mayor" field, check if somewhere is indicated the Sindaco (notice it's not present in all Italian articles).

As for coat of arms, you can freely copy and upload them from www.araldicacivica.it. From th ehome page there go where is written Stemmi and then click on the Comuni... subsequently you must only write the name of the commune in the white field, and you'll have the coat of arms. When uploading, add the following write: "see [[user:Attilios]] talk page for images from www.araldicacivica.it {{GFDL}}" Ciao and let me know if I've been useful! --Attilios 12:43, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Italian Categorization Scheme

There is a lot of conversation going on about how Italian towns/cities/provinces should be categorized at Category_talk:Cities_and_towns_in_Italy. You might want to check it out and weigh in on the subject. There might be big structural changes. - AKeen 03:47, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Frazione of Italy

Hi Gioto. Good idea to create this category. I’ve tweaked it a bit and added it to Pollenzo (part of Bra (CN)). I wonder, though, whether it might be better to use the plural form and have it as Category:Frazioni of Italy? Or even follow the Italian Wikipedia and make it Category:Frazioni comunali of Italy? Cheers. Ian Spackman 10:58, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Coranto AFD

Your nomination for deletion for this article wasn't complete, because you forgot to list in the day's log (stage 3 of the process) - it is has now been listed in the log so some discussion can take place. You should also give a valid reason for proposing the the deletion of the article (see WP:AFD), or if you did want it kept and cleaned-up you should have used one of the cleanup tags rather than tagging it for deletion. Cheers. Yomanganitalk 23:12, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
