• Torch Ginger is the Ginger Flower Etlingera elatior, the buds of the showy pink flowers being an important ingredient in laksa.

  • A ginger is also a slang term for (in the UK sometimes pronounced /giŋə/ rather than /dʒindʒə/) someone with red hair. Also, sometimes it is seen as a term of disparagement for someone with red hair.
