Ginga Densetsu Riki is a manga created by Yoshihiro Takahashi in the Ginga Legend Weed magazine Weed World in 2000.

It was created to be the prequel of Ginga Nagareboshi Gin. There is one manga volume and it contains six chapters. A GDR anime has yet to be announced. It is only available in Japanese, but GingaSite.net offers a fan translation in English, and GingaWorld.NET offers a fan translation in Swedish.

A new chapter was produced once a month in the Weed World manga in Japan. Later, it was released into one volume for sale. So far, it has only been released in Japan.

Gohei Takeda
Professional bear hunter of the Ou village. He is Shiro's owner, and Riki's owner in Ginga Nagareboshi Gin.
Daisuke
Young boy who is saved by Riki from bad dogs.
Yujiro
The temporary owner of Yamabuki, Riki's mother. He's taking care of Yamabuki for his sick sister. He is married to Eiko and has a son named Tooru.
Eiko
Yujiro's wife and Tooru's mother.
Tooru
Son of Yujiro and Eiko who feeds Yamabuki and her new pups.
"Big Sister"
Name unknown. The real owner of Yamabuki. She was sick, but when she is healed, Yamabuki is returned to her, much to Riki's dismay.

Riki
A red/brown Akita Inu and the runt of the litter. Nobody believed him to ever amount to anything. He saves Daisuke from three wild dogs. After watching his father's death, he vows revenge on Akakabuto.
Shiro
Riki's father, a silver/grey Akita Inu. In the end of the manga, he is killed by Akakabuto, along with his comrades.
Yamabuki
Riki's mother, a white Akita Inu. Belongs to Big Sister.
Heiji, Monta, and Unknown
The three dogs who attack Riki and chase him into a river. They also attack Daisuke, but Riki saves him.
Akakabuto
Large, mad bear attacking local livestock and terrorizing the people of Ou.
