Born on January 9th 1941, Gilles Vaillancourt became mayor of the city of Laval, QC Canada in 1989 and president of the "Union des municipalités du Québec" (from April 1995 to April 1997).

Vaillancourt sits at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and chairs the Committee of municipal finances.

Vaillancourt is the leader of the "Parti PRO des Lavallois" that was created in 1980.
