Gibbs College
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gibbs College is the name of each of the for-profit colleges operating under the Gibbs Division of the Career Education Corporation. The Gibbs Colleges and the Katharine Gibbs Schools offer career preparation through associate degree and certificate programs in several areas including allied health, business and casino operations, criminal justice, computer technology, design and office administration.
In 1911, Katharine Gibbs founded the Providence School for Secretaries in Providence, Rhode Island. A few years later, she opened branches in Boston and New York and renamed her enterprise The Katharine Gibbs Schools. From their earliest days, the Katherine Gibbs Schools were known for their excellence in preparing women for the workplace.
The Career Education Corporation (CEC) acquired the Gibbs group in 1997. CEC is a for-profit, post-secondary education provider, enrolling nearly 100,000 students in more than 80 institutions located in the United States, Canada, England, France, and the United Arab Emirates. CEC has, however, decided to put Gibbs up for sale as part of a divestiture of some of its holdings. [1]
