[edit] Why is this an article?
What is the possible reason why this particular giant foods warrants a Wikipedia article?Frithjh 07:30, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- It's its own article because it was its own separate company with its own history and because it still remains its owner banner. What do you suggest merging it with? --Captadam 13:08, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think that a little history of the articles on Giant Food would explain a lot here. Originally, we had two articles: Giant Food and Martin's Food Markets. The former described ALL operations known as Giant Food (Carlisle, Landover, and the unrelated ones). The latter described Giant-Carlisle's Martin's operation. Some discussion ensued, and the result was that Giant Food was kind of sloppy, and Martin's Food Markets was basically the same as Giant-Carlisle, just under a different nameplate. So we did some merging and splitting. We split up Giant Food, spinning the section on Giant-Carlisle into Giant Food of Carlisle, Pennsylvania and Giant-Landover into Giant Food of Landover, Maryland. While they're both presently owned by Ahold, you see, they had different origins, and are still operated as separate chains (note that my Martin's bonuscard does not work at a Giant-Landover store). Then the Martin's Food Markets article was merged into Giant Food of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, since it's basically just a nameplate change. So that's why Giant-Landover is a separate article.
