GET-ligaen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

GET-Ligaen is the premier Norwegian ice hockey league.[citation needed] The league was known as 1. divisjon (1st division) until 1990, when it was reorganized and named Eliteserien (Elite league) a name it held until 2004 when cable TV company UPC became main sponsor. UPC Norway changed its name to GET in 2006 and hence the name of the league was also altered.

The league consists of ten teams, mainly from the southeastern part of Norway. Forty-four rounds are played, and the eight best teams qualify for the play offs. The last two play the top two from division one for the rights to play in next seasons GET-Liga.

The teams competing in the league for the 2006-07 season are I.K. Comet (Halden), Frisk Tigers (Asker), Furuset I.F. (Oslo), Lillehammer I.K., Sparta Warriors (Sarpsborg), Stavanger Oilers, Stjernen (Fredrikstad), Storhamar Dragons (Hamar), Trondheim Black Panthers and VĂ¥lerenga Hockey (Oslo).
