Gerry Staley

Gerald Lee Staley (born August 21, 1920 in Brush Prairie, Washington) was a Pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals (1947-54), Cincinnati Reds (1955), New York Yankees (1955-56), Chicago White Sox (1956-61), Kansas City Athletics (1961) and Detroit Tigers (1961).

He helped the Yankees win the 1955 American League Pennant and the 1956 World Series and the White Sox win the 1959 AL Pennant.

Staley was named to the 1952-53 National League All-Star Teams and the 1960 American League All-Star Team.

He finished 28th in voting for the 1959 American League MVP for leading the League in Games (67) and Games Finished (37) and having a 8-5 Win-Loss record, 14 Saves, 116 ⅓ Innings, 111 Hits Allowed, 39 Runs Allowed, 29 Earned Runs Allowed, 5 Home Runs Allowed, 25 Walks Allowed, 54 Strikeouts, 2 Wild Pitches, 471 Batters Faced, 9 Intentional Walks and a 2.24 ERA.

He finished 23rd in voting for the 1960 AL MVP for having a 13-8 Win-Loss record, 64 Games, 45 Games Finished, 10 Saves, 115 ⅓ Innings, 94 Hits Allowed, 40 Runs Allowed, 31 Earned Runs Allowed, 8 Home Runs Allowed, 25 Walks Allowed, 52 Strikeouts, 3 Hit Batsmen, 1 Wild Pitch, 461 Batters Faced, 7 Intentional Walks and a 2.42 ERA.

He led the National League in Hits Allowed per 9 Innings Pitched (8.09) in 1949.

He led the National League in Hit Batsmen in 1952 (7) and 1953 (17).
