[edit] History

[edit] Early Years

The earliest mention of cricket in Germany comes in 1850, but the sport had declined by the time of the Second World War, when the sport's close association with England made it politically incorrect. [1]

[edit] ICC Membership

It took almost 50 years for cricket to re-establish itself, and the Deutscher Cricket Bund (DCB) was formed in 1988. Many cricket clubs were formed in Munich in the early 90s. [2]

Germany became an ICC affiliate member in 1991, and were promoted to Associate member in 1999. [3] A 1997 game against France was listed as one of the 100 best matches of the 20th Century by the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack.

[edit] Recent History

Germany have competed in every European Championship apart from the first edition in 1996. In 2001, they competed in the ICC Trophy for the first, and to date only, time.

[edit] Cricket in 2006

In August, Germany will participate in Division Two of the European Championship. They are drawn in the same group as Gibraltar, Greece and Guernsey. The other group consists of France, Israel, Jersey and Norway. A top two finish in this tournament will give them a chance at qualification for the 2011 World Cup.

[edit] Famous players

Two England Test players were born in Germany. These are Donald Carr and Paul Terry.
