Germán Trejo

Mr. German Trejo-Caballero is one of the founders and current President of the International Institute for Democracy (IID). As president of IID, German Trejo-Caballero has lead electoral observation missions to Mexico, Peru, Nicaragua, the United States, Argentina and Russia. In addition, Mr. Trejo-Caballero serves as Chair of the Board of Trustee’s for the Ohio Mexican American Organization.

Trejo-Caballero has dedicated his life both, to public service and to work towards the construction of democracy, from the governmental and non-governmental sectors. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the non-for profit Global Commerce Consortium; Hispanic/Latino Outreach Director for the Kerry-Edwards Presidential Campaign in Wisconsin; Director of Community Relations at the International Visitors Council; Vice President of The Ohio State University’s University-wide Council of Hispanic Organizations; Co-Chair of the OSU Undergraduate Student Government’s Diversity Committee; and Vice President of the OSU Asociacion de Estudiantes Mexicanos (Mexican Student Association). In the private sector, Trejo-Caballero’s served as President and CEO of Language Associates Ltd – a 150 employee translations firm with offices 10 cities in the United States, and representatives in Mexico and Japan.

Numerous U.S. and foreign institutions have honored Mr. Trejo-Caballero due to his leadership. Among them are The Ohio State University, MLS Columbus Crew, the U.S. Congress, the Revolutionary Institutional Party, the Congress of Argentina, the Congress of Mexico, and the Congress of the State of Michoacan. Trejo-Caballero has traveled to more than 13 countries in official missions, including Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Guatemala, Jamaica, Japan, Nicaragua, Peru, Russia and others, and speaks four languages, English, Spanish, Portuguese and French, in different proficiency levels. German Trejo-Caballero studied architecture at the Universidad Michoacana in Morelia Mexico, and graduated with a B.A. in political science and international studies from The Ohio State University. He is married to Sara Belcastro, a Teacher’s Retirement Counselor for STRS Ohio and MBA student at Otterbein University.
