[edit] Routing
State Route 50 begins at the Alabama state line, at the bridge over the Chattahoochee River. The route travels east, cosigned with U.S. Route 82, to Georgetown. After a brief cosignage with State Route 39 east of Georgetown, the route continues east to Cuthbert. The route then continues almost due east to Dawson, where it meets its eastern terminus at State Route 520. U.S. Route 82 continues east, cosigned with State Route 520.
[edit] History
State Route 50 at one point continued east to Jekyll Island along what is now State Route 520, but was superceded, and thus replaced, upon the commissioning of State Route 520. [1]
[edit] Significance
Despite being signed as a U.S. Highway, outside of Georgetown and Cuthbert, State Route 50 sees an Average Annual Daily Traffic of less than 5,000 vehicles. [2]
