Georgetown GO Station is a GO Transit and VIA Rail railway station. It is the western terminus for the GO's Georgetown line trains, although until 1993 some continued to Guelph, which remains connected by a feeder bus. The station also includes a yard which can store four GO trains overnight or over the weekend to keep the trains' batteries charged. It is located at 55 Queen Street in Georgetown, near Mountainview Drive.
Like many other stations, Georgetown features a station building housing a waiting room and ticket sales along with car parking facilities. GO has no plans, however, to install a Ticket Vending Machine (TVM), as with several other stations. Although the station does not have a dedicated bus loop for GO Transit buses, they can still enter the station because it is away from the main streets of Georgetown.
Ridership on the Georgetown corridor is growing, but there are no plans for major improvements to the train services running to and from Georgetown at the time being. This is largely due to the lack of funding from the former Mike Harris Progressive Conservative provincial government, the busy CN freight trains running on the same tracks, and to a lesser extent, the currently limited amount of storage space for the trains.
For the same ridership growth reasons, Georgetown has quite recently been through a parking expansion, by building an extra parking lot north of the tracks. The main parking lot south of the tracks, and because of the storage tracks in-between, it is connected to the platforms by an underground pedestrian tunnel.
The present design of the station does not allow for wheelchair access, but plans are underway to make the station accessible by 2008-2009.
