Georges Leekens is a football manager for Gent and a former player.

He used to coach the Belgium national football team and led it to the 1998 FIFA World Cup finals after a two-legged win against the Republic of Ireland in the qualifying playoff. Leekens was selected as national coach after an impressive work at R.E. Mouscron that was playing the title in their first year in Jupiler League at the half of the season. He was sacked from his role as federal coach after a deceiving 3rd place in the World Cup group stage.
