George Villiers, 7th Earl of Clarendon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Frederick Laurence Hyde Villiers, 7th Earl of Clarendon (born 2 February 1933) is the son of George Herbert Arthur Hyde Villiers, Lord Hyde (1906-1935) and Hon. Marion Feodorovna Louise Glyn (1900-1970). He succeeded to the family honours upon the death of his grandfather in 1963.

In 1966, during George Frederick Laurence Hyde Villiers' earldom, his family name was given to Villiers Hall, a hall of residence for 305 students of the university of Leicester, situated in Manor Road, Oadby. The red brickwork in a distinct geometric architectural design may have founds its origins in the cubist art movement. This remained until 2004 when the majority of the residential blocks were knocked down, the rest renamed as part of "The New Hall," which opened in September 2006.

He married Jane Diana Dawson in 1974. Children of this marriage are:

  • George Edward Laurence Villiers, Lord Hyde (born 1976)
  • Lady Sarah Katherine Jane Villiers (born 1977)
