[edit] History

The school was established in 1960 and was significantly expanded to include a second site in 1978. The second site is found over a footbridge from the original, which spans the A52/Brian Clough Way. A ballot of parents in 1993 resulted in the school becoming grant-maintained. It has since become a self-governing foundation school and has been awarded Beacon School status. In 1994 it became one of the first schools to acquire the Technology College specialisation.

[edit] George Spencer 6th Form College

Since 2004 George Spencer has had its own Sixth Form College. Three buildings are used to teach the 220 students taught on site. There are 29 AS/A2 subjects on offer as well as many other activities. General Studies is taken by all Year 12 students in addition to between 3 and 5 AS courses.

[edit] George Spencer Radio

George Spencer Foundation School and Technology College has its own radio station known simply as George Spencer Radio. The radio station was launched in January 2006 after much campaigning and work by Michael Sibert, the original head of the radio station.
