George Gorman (rugby player)

George Gorman (born 13 October 1973 in Belfast, Northern Ireland) was an Ulster Rugby Union footballer. Gorman is related to Seamus Heaney the Nobel Laureate.

Playing loose head prop, He attended Grosvenor Grammar School, later playing for Bangor RFC and Ulster under 18s, Gorman then moved to Stirling University, playing for Stirling County before retiring from rugby. He made his debut playing for Ireland on 9 October in the 1991 Rugby World Cup vs. Japan as their youngest ever player at the time. However he gained only one cap as he injured his knee in training before the Scottish game two days later. The recurring injury and move to university resulted in Gorman retiring from formal rugby a year later, preferring to move into business and IT as a consultant.
