George Brown House

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Brown House was home to Reform Party leader, Father of Confederation and publisher George Brown. He founded the paper the Globe, which is now the Globe and Mail.

The Second Empire-style home was built between 1874 and 1876 declared a National Historic Site in 1976. Threatened by demolition, the Ontario Heritage Foundation intervened. The foundation restored the house and re-opened it in 1989 as a conference centre with tenant offices on the upper floors.
