George Arbuthnot, 1st of Elderslie (24 December 1772–18 September 1843) was a Scottish businessman. Son of Robert Arbuthnot, 2nd of Haddo-Rattray and brother of Sir William Arbuthnot, 1st Bt.
He entered the Ceylon Civil Service and was appointed deputy governor to the Governor of Ceylon, the Hon Frederick North. He then tuned to business, entering the firm of Latour & Co (afterwards Arbuthnot & Co of Madras). He was appointed agent at Ceylon for the Madras government. He wrote an extensive diary.
He married Eliza Fraser, and had issue including Jane Arbuthnot who married George Stephens Gough, 2nd Viscount Gough.
