[edit] Playing career

Allen played in the minors in the east until he went to the west and was then signed by the New York Rangers who assigned him to their New Haven farm team. Injuries to the Rangers forced them to call up Allen during the 1938-39 NHL season where he played in 19 games earning 12 points (6g,6a). He was then sold to the Blackhawks where he would play until the 1944-45 NHL season which he missed due to the National War Labour Board restrictions on the Canada-US border. He was sold to the Montreal Canadiens, after one more year in Chicago, where he would play for one season then play out his career in the minor before retiring in 1957. He was also a player-coach during the 1950-51 season with the Regina Capitals.
