Geopark

Geopark is short for Geological Park. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) defines a Geopark in its UNESCO Geoparks International Network of Geoparks programme as follows:
- A territory encompassing one or more sites of scientific importance, not only for geological reasons but also by virtue of its archaeological, ecological or cultural value.

[edit] Geoparks within the Vulkaneifel region
The Vulkaneifel region is located in the west of Germany, covering the district of Daun, and parts of the districts of Ahrweiler, Mayen-Koblenz, Cochem-Zell, and Bernkastel-Wittlich. There are three Geoparks within the Vulkaneifel region (2004,45 km²); the Vulkanpark Brohltal/Laacher See, the Vulkanpark Osteifel, and the Vulkaneifel European Geopark.
