Geoffrey William Griffin was the founding director of Starehe Boys Centre and School. He founded the school in 1959 with the help of Geoffrey Geturo and Joseph Gikubu, the current director of the school.

He also served as the founding director of the National Youth Service between 1964 and 1988 when he retired from the Kenyan Civil Service.

Starehe is the valley of hope to many orphaned and poor African children, who gained free, quality education. Many of these boys, formerly street children, are prominent people in Kenya and the world.
