Geoff Thompson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Geoff Thompson is a writer, teacher and self-defence expert. He was born in Coventry, England in 1960. Geoff has received acclaim for writing dozens of books on self-defense, martial arts, fear control, and his most popular book, Watch My Back, an autobiography about his early years and how he came to be a nightclub doorman working in his hometown of Coventry.
Like many others in the field of self-protection, Geoff began his martial arts training in the Eastern arts including, but not limited to, karate and Kung-Fu. However, during his time as a nightclub doorman found that what he had learned was inadequate for the reality of violence. Though he utilizes a small core of techniques from Eastern arts as part of his teachings, Geoff prefers more pragmatic Western arts such as boxing and wrestling (Greco-Roman, Judo and Free-style).
He holds the ABA boxing instructor certificate and high level coaching awards for wrestling. Further to this, he has a 1st Dan in Judo (gained whilst training with the Neil Adams led national squad in the early 1990s) and 6th Dan in Shotokan Karate.
In addition to his books, Geoff has written and presented a series of martial arts and self help DVDs, distributed by Summersdale Productions.
