[edit] No Turtle Scouts
The link is NOT a dead link. When a link does not work, you may need to try again in a few minutes as dns information sometimes takes a bit of time to propogate to servers that have not ever used that domain name before. Turtles subverting the principles of Scouting is a serious problem in some places. Awareness that this is problem is like an innoculation, it prepares Scouts and their parents to avoid the dis-ease.
You have removed this twice now. The most recent justification was "This isn't the link to the "parallel organization" (which seems to be very local), but to an anti-pov rant page. It has little or no bearing on the global scouting movement, so I'm removing it again"
The Turtles within Scouts is very much NOT local. This is an awareness and youth protection issue. Please help satisfactorily label this link. The link is not to a "rant page" but to the first public history of abuse that has been going on for decades in the US. The postings are of fact, not simply opinions and not rants. The owner of the site is one of the best active Scoutmasters I have ever met. His troop produces some of the best Eagle Scouts from the Occoneechee Council. Because some of the local turtle scout members have been very active in the international scouting program, it is possible that this abuse is international in scope. Gentgeen, Are You A turtle ? or are you part of the solution?

Hello! I've created Wikipedia:WikiProject years 'in science' (based on the pages you've created) to encourage people to edit the years in science pages and to finalize on the format. Maximus Rex 19:50, 24 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Yes, the Pow-wow page looks good, and it looks like the links are straight as well. Good job -- Smerdis of Tlön 17:19, 8 Nov 2003 (UTC)
I caught your post on Angela's talk page. Here is the page where such copyright violations can be listed: Wikipedia:Sites that use Wikipedia for content. Unfortunately there are only very few people that actually go to the trouble of sending the appropriate emails to the copyright violating websites. You'll see that there are dozens such violations that we have found, which is most likely to be just the tip of the iceberg. --snoyes 16:50, 2 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Hi Gentgeen. Thanks for spotting that. And thanks Snoyes for answering for me :) Angela 22:56, 2 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Thanks for your edit on List of BSA rank requirements. I can't believe I missed that - I was writing straight out of my book. -Smack 23:29, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)
I'm sorry I didn't see the Wikiproject discussion on Years in Science pages. I was removing the CE/BCE because they aren't used anywhere else in Wikipedia, that I know of - certainly not in any of the other "years in XXXX" listings. (e.g., 1st century BC) Should we just have them in this one category? If nothing else, can they be left out as long as the project just involves post-Rennaisance time, which it probably will for quite a while? - DavidWBrooks 15:42, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Would you like to get some discussion going on Wikipedia talk:Wikiproject Games? -Smack 00:49, 7 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Hi, Gentgeen. I noticed your good material on the Modoc War (which I had never heard about previously) and then noticed your interest in 19th Century California History.. Can I call your attention to History of California? It's quite a mess, filled with inaccuracies. The article needs TLC and I don't have time to do it myself :-( . It may be an ideal place for an clean overview, and links back to detailed articles that you've written. Just a suggestion. -- hike395 06:01, 15 Jan 2004 (UTC)
I might know your friend on GP-B. I think most of us should be working in the Hansen building in Stanford now; It's pretty small as the upstairs doesn't even have a bathroom. Who is the individual ?
As far as the number of people working on the project, I would guess after about 2 months from now it will only be a few dozen (at most). Off the top of my head, I can think of less than a dozen Lockheed people who will be continuing on in the project. -- Chongruk 01:01, 27 April 2004 (PDT)
I know who Ken is, he has the Van Dyke facial hair and is one of the main mechanical guys who was at Vandenburg. He left his console at about 9:20 pm last night to watch the GPB satellite overhead. -- Chongruk 03:45, 30 April 2004 (PDT)

Please keep deleting the example recipes from wikipedia articles. It's good to copy them to Wikibooks which requires deleting them from the encyclopedia article because duplication is a bad thing. Not Jamesday 21:26, Jan 30, 2004 (UTC)
You must be feeling brave. That's probably one of the few recipes I wouldn't have objected to staying here, but... we'll see what happens. I expect Stephen and James might have a few objections. Angela. 09:31, Feb 3, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Brilliant pictures
Hi Gentgeen, I didn't really understand your comment on Featured articles about merging the page with Brilliant Pictures. I'm not a regular reader of Featured articles... is there a big backlog at the moment? (I assumed the page was alway that long) :) fabiform | talk 11:25, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation, I feel like I'm up to speed now. :) Your objection makes total sense too. Hopefully with the boost in traffic the brilliant pictures section will get a bit bigger (rather than the 7 nominations at present), so it would be best to wait a few weeks for featured articles to get back to its usual size first. Cheers, fabiform | talk 12:37, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC).

Hello, Gentgeen. In my "cleanup," I only removed one of the sections (which I felt was redundant), and deleted repeat entries. My efforts are complete, so you can continue with yours. -- Emsworth 17:18, Feb 14, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the help with the telescopes template. And regarding being a non-astronomer, most "real" astronomers would never bother working on something like Wikipedia--I'm in the process of becoming "unreal" myself, leaving grad school to become some form of educator--so your input is highly valuable. And all us scientists are notoriously bad at communicating, so who knows what we're doing here! Keep up the good work. --zandperl 21:48, 19 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi Gentgeen! Thanks for the improvements on the earthquake. I'm just going to wait until i go home (where i have books on the subject) to make further expanding and re-nominate the article. Cheers, Muriel 11:24, 16 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I understand this. Maybe I should've made it more clear in my postings that only Mav and I are really involved in the stylistic argument over the article. I understand that our disagreement centers on policy processes for the removal of articles. I don't mean to get into a revert war, but I guess that we do disagree over whether or not two policies are entailed and really nothing vis-a-vis the article's contents. I address the policy dispute in the first paragraph of my last posting on the talk page; the rest probably isn't pertinent to your concerns. BTW, I sincerely apologize for getting you caught up in my argument with Mav, which has been recurring for roughly a year and a half over a series of articles. In all honestly, my real concern is that the removal of this particular article will be read as a tacit sign that his stance is correct, which has far more to do with writing history articles than policies for the featured page. 172 12:45, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Whiskey pictures
I saw your post saying you'd requested some picture. Great - I think folks are correct that the article needs some. I have three that I want to add, but that were taken by a friend (who hasn't get answered my "gfdl?" email yet). They are:
- a handful of germinated barley in someone's hands
- the "brewing" room (I forget what it's called - the giant oak wart barrels filled with nasty barleybeer)
- a very nice one of copper stills (I think at Lagavulin)
Once I have permission, I propose to add a vertical bar to the article's RHS, and add these (and hopefully some more) in production-chronological order. I don't have decent photos of the distillery as a whole (well, I do, but they have recognisable people in them, including myself), malting, milling, bonded barrels, or a final product shot. If you've got, or can find, some of those then I think that would make for an excellent illustration of the "story of production". -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 17:31, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Ah, permission received. I updated the article accordingly. Please feel free to edit as needed. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 22:02, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Charles C. Boyer in years in science
Well, you are sort of the keeper of the "year in science" pages. But I would have thought that much of the point of such pages would be to provide a list of notable events to help orient the reader to the happenings of the time. True, Boyer himself is encyclopedic, by virtue of having written some widely-used texts; and we (rightfully) have an article on his achievements. But is his birthdate encyclopedic enough to mention in a chronology of science? Would you want to include birthdates of every minor textbook author in this way? Would the article then be better?
Best regards, UninvitedCompany
- You didn't even get his name right. --Daniel C. Boyer 20:06, 17 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Sysop
It's nice to be back on your talk page six months after I welcomed you to tell you that you are now an administrator. Congratulations! You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. Good luck. Angela. 23:39, Apr 25, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] B.C. Highways
Hey, Gentgeen! Putting a did-you-know tidbit about B.C. Highway 2 on the main page was just an awesome way of marking the completion of the 'B.C. provincial highways' series of articles. I managed to pull off writing all of those articles single-handedly, and that feat still amazes me right now, so that did-you-know line was very much appreciated. Thanks a bunch!!! ^_^ Denelson83 07:00, 27 May 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Banning for possible copyright infringements
At User talk:80.131.87.92 you wrote "Any further posting of copyright infringements is grounds for banning editing from this IP address" after there had been two articles created by that IP, both apparently self-promotional. Please identify the part of the Wikipedia:Banning policy or Wikipedia:Blocking policy which you believe permits banning or blocking on the basis of just three (the existing two plus a new one) suspected copyright infringements. More generally, please remember that threatening people is generally not a good first move when explaining policy. Much better to tell them the policy first, then only consider doing more if they continue once they know what we're after. Jamesday 20:02, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Sysops may also permanently block user accounts that do essentially nothing but vandalism. This user's only contributions at that time were to add copyright violations to the 'pedia, which I consider to be vandalism. This was discussed on #wikipedia before I made the warning, and again after, and none of the other sysops at the time saw anything wrong with the warning. Gentgeen 03:31, 21 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- I don't see what the problem is. The user hasn't been back after the last copyright violation post, which was before I left the warning. If someone has made both legit and non legit edits, then they should be treated as simply in need of coaching, but a user who has done nothing but violate international law, not to mention our policies, should not be treated with kid gloves. How the hell is Arena football international news? It's a minor american league. EURO 2004 is vastly more significant internationally, millions of people watch the tournament.

[edit] Porphyrins
Hi Gentgeen, I need a chemist's opinion on this. Porphyrin has been categorised as an aromatic hydrocarbon. It is, as you will know, a tetrapyrrole and does not contain aromatic structures at all! Would you be able to suggest a better category? I'm thinking of making some subacticles on the enzymes and compounds of the heme synthesis pathway, and was wondering how to classify all these things. For the enzymes I'll use the EC number. JFW | T@lk 09:56, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Given that porphyrins are not aromatic, how would you propose it to be classified? I used to love organic chemistry, but I've forgotten too much... JFW | T@lk 11:45, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] San Jose
Nice photos of San Jose. I never have time to get photos of everything that there could be photos of! So I'm glad someone else from the area is photographing. I have another panorama shot of the entire santa clara valley that I haven't uploaded yet because one of the shots is very differently exposed (dang cheap digital camera) and I haven't had the time to try to figure out photoshop enough to try to fix it. [edit] Bull Riding
Hi Gentgeen,
I'm about to correct your modification to bull riding. The bull's testicles are not bound. Somewhere that myth got started, but it isn't true. You can confirm it for yourself by watching a bull riding on a hot day... the bull's scrotum hangs down about 10 inches and swings in the breeze while he is bucking.
Most folks that protest rodeo miss the mark. The rough stock events; bull riding, bare back and saddle bronc are the ones least likely to injure the animals. The timed events are the ones that do the damage: Calf roping and steer tripping are the worst.
Regards,
lbmoore
[edit] Re: Chemicals category
A category of chemicals, that is the noun which can be made plural rather than the adjective of or having to do with chemistry, is one which contains substances used in or obtained by a chemical process, whereas a category of chemistry is one which encompasses the science of these substances and its application, including such things as the articles on CAS registry number and Crystal. - Centrx 04:12, 2 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Yes, but CAS registry number does not belong in a Chemicals category; it is an identifier with an associated concept. crystal and liquid, for instance, also do not belong in a Chemicals category, for they are properties with associated processes. While an ion is a chemical, the article Ion might belong in the Chemicals category but the article is on much more than simply the chemical, it is an article on ionization and on ioniziation energies, just as crystal is also an article on the process of crystalization. The reason for this is because of encyclopedicness, closely related concepts and items go in the same article; they are related at length and stand on their own, rather than having an unmanageable and unreadable slew of repetitive, separate articles on similar things. For instance, there is no article on superconductor, because there is on one superconductivity which discusses all matters related to that, among which it also goes into the superconducting chemicals.
- I see that my movement of some of the categories may have been incorrect, or at least not of sufficient onus that it warranted doing anything about. However, for instance, the category Explosives and the articles colloid, complex (chemistry), mixture, solution, and solvent, do not belong in the category Chemicals. The Explosives category contains numerous articles which are not about the chemical agents, but about for instance, fireworks in general and detonating cords. These do not belong in this category any more than, say, "dinner plate" by virtue of its make of porcelain. A colloid is a form of matter, a property, it is not a chemical. Mixture is in a similar situation. Solvent should be merged with Solution, and the article Solution does not belong in the Chemicals category. - Centrx 04:42, 2 Aug 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Locomotives
You seem to be categorising three different things under Category:Locomotives: individual locomotives (e.g. Mallard), locomotive classes (e.g. British Rail Class 53), and locomotive types (e.g. 4-6-2). It seems to me that these should all be categorised separately. —Morven 00:43, Aug 25, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] History of California
Hi! Looks like we crossed paths in edits this evening. I wasn't trying to be out of bounds in my year correction, and you are so right in stating the difficulty in getting a suitable location for CA state govt. to work in. Hope there's no hard feelings. The article does need some more TLC, I agree with hike395 there - but I was just correcting some of the more egregious errors from an Antelope Valley POV. [edit] Exhibition games vs. friendly matches
The reason I put the separate article there is not because of the difference in British versus American English but because there's a (blurry) difference in the meaning. Exhibition games tend to be devoid of serious competition and preparatory in nature, where friendly matches generally refer to matches that can be competitive, they just don't count for anything. --DMG413 23:38, 11 Sep 2004 (UTC)
[edit] California important cities and towns
Thank you so very much for cleaning up this section! You treated the Antelope Valley with due respect as well - major kudos to a Northlander and Silicon Valleyite that cares about us Southlander inland desert dwellers! (very broad grin) Now I feel more like a Californian on Wikipedia, and less like an out of stater. (You wouldn't believe how many people I meet casually who erroneously think the California portion of the Mojave Desert is part of Arizona or Nevada. . .) And you did this edit without me updating the Antelope Valley article with a total population number (easier said than done). You (evidently) read my article, saw my edit about the two largest cities there, and proceeded to edit correct info about the AV. Bring on the Main Street Electrical Parade for Gentgeen - and make him the Master of Ceremonies! BTW, the San Diego info is looking better, too. --avnative 10:44, Sep 16, 2004 (UTC)

Not a straw man, not a rhetorical question. [edit] Bagdad 02Apr2003 L7 300px.jpg
Hey, just going through the disambiguating pages. Noticed your image right there. Just wanted to check with you, because I'm faiiirly certain but you never know. This is Baghdad, Iraq we're looking at, correct? Just wanted to make sure because you could be referring to the Bagdads in Arizona, Florida, or the one in Tazmania. If it is the one in Iraq, could you change the file name and link to Baghdad?
- Thanks. I fixed the link, then remembered that the 300 px image was just a scaled down version of a larger image, from back when images couldn't be resized, so I speedy deleted as being redundant. Gentgeen 07:29, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC)

It appears that I should create a page called User:Martin TB/monobook.css and then add the information to that page in order to make my UI change. Is that correct? I wanted to ask before I made any changes.

Are you serious, man? You listed the article on cleanup? I've never been so insulted in all the time I've been here. I don't know what your problem is, but I think you should stop this silliness. Everyking 12:23, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I welcome others' input and contributions, but I won't accept significant removal of detail, not unless that detail can be appropriately moved to another article or unless it can be shown that we can say just as much in fewer words. And I won't accept the notion that the article is a "fanpage"—I'm surprised that you would say something so insulting, and I find it utterly incomprehensible because the article reads to me as a fair and neutral piece. It's loaded with negative reviews and criticism. So I think you ought to be very moderate and gradual in whatever you propose, much more civil, and agree to err on the side of inclusion. Everyking 12:53, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Relevance and perspective. I know what that's code for. I wrote the article; nobody's going to take it over and dictate how it will look without giving my opinions foremost consideration. Everyking 03:09, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I also want to say that you have insulted me beyond what I can accept both as a person and a Wikipedia editor, and consequently I won't discuss anything further with you except things strictly related to article content on the proper talk pages. Everyking 03:14, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. [edit] RFC pages on VfD
Should RFC pages be placed on VfD to be deleted? I'm considering removing Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Slrubenstein, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jwrosenzweig and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/John Kenney from WP:VFD. Each of them was listed by CheeseDreams. Your comments on whether I should do this would be appreciated. - Ta bu shi da yu 03:42, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Request
Hi, Neutrality and I are engaged in an edit war. He has also contributed to a request for arbitration (and RfC) against me. He has just blocked me.
Please note that the block occurred just after I had discovered a new RfAr against myself, and was starting to provide rebuttals to it.
I consider this an abuse of his adminship.
Could you look into this action, and consider whether un-blocking me is appropriate? CheeseDreams 23:14, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

- CheeseDreams was being highly disruptive. See User talk:CheeseDreams#24-hour block and User talk:CheeseDreams#Category:Bible stories (by the way, he and I are in no way engaged in an "edit war," nor have I ever contributed to an arbitration request against him). - Thanks. After being warned repeatedly, he still recreated and repopulated Category:Bible stories. If there were any mitigating circumstances at all (like some sort of edit comment or talk page explanation for why he was recreating the category) I wouldn't have blocked him at all. But after he remade the category for the third time, I just got fed up. [[User:Neutrality|Neutrality/talk]] 07:36, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)
- 1. He is in an edit war, see the items in Category Bible Stories
- 2. See Wikipedia:Requests for comment/CheeseDreams for his being part of the RfAr gang
- 3. See Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Bible stories where Aranel states it requires 2/3 to delete, requiring her vote, which was NOT given.
- 4. Mirv did not consider the act violated anything allowed for blocking on the Wikipedia:Blocking policy, and unblocked me.
- 5. In fact Use of blocks to gain advantage in an article content dispute is specifically prohibited.
- 6. Neutrality IS in volation of the naming policy, and the Wikipedia:Blocking policy states that a ban on Neutrality IS thus appropriate.

Could you please explain your motivation to, for example, adding Flecainide to Amines, Aromatics, Ethers, and so on, groups ? If you look e.g. into Ketones catherogy, you'll see, that the group contains only compounds, where the ketone group is the main/only functional group in the molecule. Didn't you consider also adding virually all organic compounds into Hydrocarbons cathegory :) ? --Mykhal 09:20, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mission basilica
The official websites don't use the term basilica, so why should we? RickK 09:23, Apr 10, 2005 (UTC)
Where does it say basilica at http://www.missionsjc.com/? RickK 09:35, Apr 10, 2005 (UTC)
- on the faq page. Gentgeen 09:36, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- It's also on the general information page [19]. San Juan Capistrano has two different official websites, one for the parish and one for the tourist attraction. The parish page [20] uses Basilica extensivly, the tourist attraction page [[21] uses it less, but it is there. Gentgeen 09:48, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
-
- Why don't we word it something like "Mission San Juan Capistrano is a basilica" ..., for example? "Mission Basilica" is not the common name. Trust me, I went through all of this stuff in fourth grade history in California. Nobody in California would know what you mean if you say "Mission Basilica". RickK 09:56, Apr 10, 2005 (UTC)
- I'm in California, and I know what it means. San Juan Capistrano's coat of arms is titled Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano, and includes the umbrella and keys reserved for a basilica. The parish's website uses Basilica every chance it gets. I don't want to move the article just include the full name in the bolded section of the first line. Gentgeen 10:09, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] issues about school articles
In November 2003, there was a VfD debate over Sunset High School (Portland). The debate was archived under Talk:Sunset High School (Portland). What to do with the article is still being contested and has been recently re-nominated for VfD at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Sunset High School (Portland).
I am writing to you because you have participated in such debates before. There still does not exist a wikipedia policy (as far as i can tell) over what to do in regards to articles about specific U.S. public school. My hope is that a real consensus can come out of the debate, and a real policy can take shape. Take part if you are so willing. Kingturtle 02:38, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Portolà
I reverted your edit of Gaspar de Portolá because List of pre-statehood governors of California indicate that he was, in fact, the first governor of California. If he wasn't then we need to fix the other article too. Cheers, -Willmcw 07:41, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)
- the pre-statehood list only covers the area that is now the US state of California. The title Governor of the Californias was used from the begining of the colinization of Baja in the late 1600s, but although their authority "technically" included the current US State, they actually had no control unitl Portola, Fages, Lausen and Serra got to San Diego. Gentgeen 07:53, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
-
- If that's the case then, as I indicated, the "list" article should be edited to reflect that reality. It sounds like it might be accurate to say that Portola was the first governor to exercise functional control over Alta California, or, that he was the first resident governor of Alta California. (those modified statements are never as much fun as the direct ones...) Cheers, -Willmcw 08:18, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)
-
-
- I've noticed there are two similar entries: Gaspar de Portolà and Gaspar de Portolá corresponding to the same person. I think they should be merged into the first as is the correct spelling on his original language (Catalan, spoken in Mallorca at the time) and a redirection should be done on the second.--Friviere 21:27, 8 May 2005 (UTC)
- By the way, I added some references on the first entry, that confirm he was the first governor of California.--Friviere 21:29, 8 May 2005 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- While there is no doubt that he was the first governor of what is now the US state of California, the title Governor of the Californias was in use from the begining of the colonization of Baja. For example, Fernando Rivera y Moncada was Governor of the Californias from 1751 until 1767, when Portola took over. Gentgeen 08:48, 9 May 2005 (UTC)

- Whould you mind noting the source of this Wikipedia policy? Could you give me just one reason of why the familly name of Gaspar de Portolà in English is Portolá and not Portolà apart from many being wrong? Does it mean that if 40 million people are wrong, the thruht is less important than the hits? I think that an Encyclopeadia is intended to spread knowledge and not to reproduce common errors, and that rediretions are intended to drive wrong entries to the correct ones. Would I then appear, if I ever happen to have an entry in the English Wikipedia, as Frank Rive or Frank River, instead of Francesc Rivière?--Friviere 05:07, 10 May 2005 (UTC)

Hi Gentgeen. Thanks for the notice. However, in this case i am rather trying to enforce the outcome of the vote at Talk:Gdansk/Vote (i.e. double naming for cities like Gdansk/Danzig). [edit] Order of the Arrow
Greetings. I noticed your edit sumarry that "explorers cannot elect Order of the Arrow members". I was surprised to see this because I thought they could. I know for sure that Explorer Scouts (back in my time) could be in the Order of the Arrow, but possibly they were elected to the Order by a Boy Scout troop and then joined Explorers later. I tried to confirm your statement by researching the BSA homepage [www.scouting.org] and I was surprised to see that Explorers are not even there. Instead, there is a new-fangled thing called "Venturers". Do Explorer posts still exist at all? Johntex 23:16, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation on my talk page. That clears it up for me quite a bit. By the way, I notice that we did not have an article on E. Urner Goodman, so I created one. [edit] Category:Actors from California
Why do you think it is best to separate out articles from Category:American actors, so that they can only be found through the actor category structure if you know that they were Californians? The state subcategories for people have always been problematic, because people move too much around the U.S. for any one state to be particularly important to understanding an individual. Most notable people are going to be notable on a national scale. That's why it's best to keep the state categories complementary, but not mutually exclusive to, the national ones. So what were your thoughts on this issue? Postdlf 00:45, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I understand your frustration, but I chose to withdraw my vfd, and simply redirected the page to the appropriate one. Of course you can always seek arbitration against me, and the facts will all have to be weighed, including the basic fact that the page, and various links to it were hopelessly POV. [edit] inter-language wiki links
You wrote:
Hi, I saw your question on JASpencer's talk page, and thought I'd let you know how to create interlanguage links. If you want to link to another language wiki's article, just add a link at the bottom of article with the ISO 639 code of the language, a colon, and the article title, like this: es:Papa. The link will appear on the left side of the article, under the tool box. If you want an inline link to another wiki, do pretty much the same thing, except add a colon in front of the language link, like this: es:Papa. It's that simple. Gentgeen 06:43, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
So, show me. Edit the article Roman_Catholic_Archdiocese_of_Dubuque and move my external reference to the German wiki article, http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erzbistum_Dubuque up to the "see also" category. The article is on my current watch list, so I will see and learn.
And, yeah, it's fun to know that 'archdiocese' translates to Erzbistum in German.

[edit] Req. for Mediation on Unnecessary Reverts/Deletes by Mr. Patadybag
Hello Mr. Pozniak:
Since you are familiar with the Jodie Foster entry website I would like to req. some mediation assistance on the multiple reverts/deletion from the website site regarding the link/subheading on Ms. Foster's ad work in Japan. If you could please check the current Talk page on J. Foster and this link [edits made by Patadybag] for background info. I feel Mr. Patadybag has made multiple reverts/deletion of pertinent relevant info which I put in a small paragraph/subheading at the end of the article. I really have tried to talk to Patadybag but he seems stubborn in making minor unfair changes which deletes interesting pertinent info. on J. Foster. I really feel I've tried to reach a compromise and be reasonable (see talk/history page). Any help will be appreciated. I would go through the normal med. channels but there seems a great backlog at this time. Thanks a lot. 66.248.121.159 13:20, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Categories
I point you to User talk:Postdlf. Btw, this is standard on actually every wp article: birth and date categories at first. --ThomasK 10:55, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
Look to other biographies, it is a unwritten standard. --ThomasK 11:02, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
I wrote unwritten policy. It is wrong that you are against this. In every encyclopedia there is the birth date and death date at first. From my side this discussion is closed. --ThomasK 11:25, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
I going to archive this discussions! I wrote unwritten policy! A majority is also for this. This is not only my opinion. Closed. --ThomasK 11:30, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
Because most of the biographies are sorted like this, which I wrote above. Discussion closed, I have no more time. --ThomasK 11:37, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
- How insane. Anyway, Gentgeen, you and I both know that there is no such unwritten or written policy, nor any true consensus, nor any genuine trend reflected in more articles than others. The last time it was discussed, alphabetical had only one supporter, and birth/death dates last seemed to have a majority.[22] My way is to try and group them in order of importance to the subject matter, so job titles such as Chief Justice would go first, followed by more generic occupations such as "writer," or awards/merits won, etc., followed by the more personal categories that really have nothing to do with why that individual has an article (ethnicity, religion, local geography, etc.). Last are the birth/death dates. Just wandering through...cheers. Postdlf 03:47, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
You are stupid. That´s a silly thing. There is a trend reflected in many articles. First the birth and death dates, because this is about a person, then heritage, following profession. The bots on WP are doing this for a reason! Remember: This is a encylopaedia! --Mabm 08:28, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
"How insane" by User:Postdlf is actually a personal attack, too. Quote of the wp policy: Users have been banned for repeatedly engaging in personal attacks. Hi Gentgeen, Checking deep into the history of acetanilide your name cropped up, and I was surprised to find a chemist active on Wikipedia whom I was unfamiliar with. [edit] Thanks for your help on the list of cities in California
That was a good catch that just one of the two links labeled Santa Clarita really went to Santa Clarita! That error came about because I made heroic efforts to preserve the work that came before me -- the wikilinks to the 478 incorporated cities and their alphabetical order -- while at the same time formatting the whole thing into a readable table with correct wikilinks to counties and proper wikidates for their dates of incorporation. So any errors in the wikilinks to the cities would naturally remain. Your edit alerted me to the fact that this list had not been previously checked very carefully for accuracy, so I did some checks and found several cities mis-alphabetized, two misspelled, and one with a superfluous blank! A superfluous blank?! Curious, I went back to the version that existed before I started messing with it, and sure enough, the city of Galt has a blank after its name that the others didn't have. If nothing else, this proves a very anal attention on my part to preserving the work of the giants on whose shoulders I stand. Now, this list is perfect! (Famous last words)
--GraemeMcRae 18:56, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
With regards to the Order of teh Arrow. I am not arguing with you that it was the name, I didn't delete it from the page I moved it to history where it belongs. It isn't the name now. It shouldn't be in the heading it should be in the history.
[edit] re Arroyo Seco as a wine region
Hi Gentgeen. The Arroyo Seco you added to Category:U.S. wine regions is the wrong one. The wine-producing Arroyo Seco is in Monterey County, California, while the one in that article is in Los Angeles County, California. I've removed the category tag. Mike Dillon 00:00, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Martha's Vineyard as a wine region
Hi again. I was wondering why you added Martha's Vineyard to Category:U.S. wine regions. As far as I know, there are no well-known modern wineries on the Vineyard. The one that I do know if is called Chicama Vineyards and I don't think you can get it off-island. I've never tried it, but I've heard it's not very well regarded. Do you have a reference for more than just Chicama, since I don't think one minor winery qualifies a place as a "wine region", even if it was historically named "The Vineyard". [edit] Your help is needed wikiman
Hello, I am Robert, I have a cooking wiki already established that is in need of a few good contributors. I would be interested in giving Admin rights to a few good contributors. The wiki has mucho content but no real active community and just a handful of contributors. The project is located at Cookbookwiki.com and I can be contacted at wikimanager@yahoo.com, I recently removed google ads and such. I need help getting the community part of the wiki active. Feel free to stop by and add your comments to our home page discussion or get started. From my understanding, there is much content that can be added that is missing from wikipedia due to politics. So, if you would like a cooking wiki playground, please stop by or contact me. - Robert
[edit] Category:Years in science
I notice you created Category:Years in science, which contains articles whose titles begin with a year. If you have time, could you please go through and make sure the articles are sorted in their respective year (or year-in) parent categories using sortkeys as outlined at Wikipedia:Categorization#Year categories? (Don't forget to start the sortkey with a capital letter.) If you've done this already, thanks and sorry for bugging you about this. I plan to go through a ton of such pages early next year; it would be nice if some of the work were already done... - dcljr (talk) 01:34, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Edits regarding O'Connor's retirement
I am troubled by your quickness to characterize me as "wrong", to state that "you're simply disrupting this article to prove a point", and to state that "I'm sure you know what that means" (after stating that we had both done three reverts). I know that administrators are only human, but I had hoped that administrators would be more stoic, dispassionate, education-minded, and constructive. JonathanFreed 12:40, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Gentgeen, you have made the following statements towards me during our edits of the Sandra Day O'Connor article and talk page:
- "lets not be silly" (in the edit history, 09:34)
- "You're wrong" (discussion, 10:17)
- "You're disrupting this article to prove a point, now stop" (edit history, 10:18)
- and "You were, in fact, wrong" (discussion, 19:40).
- In my opinion, the "you're wrong" statements are attacking me rather than my argument, and the other two are contributory. An ad hominem attack is a violation of the official Wikipedia 'no personal attacks' policy, and is conduct unbecoming of a Wikipedia administrator; the specific subject we were discussing is irrelevant. As per the policy on resolving disputes, I am bringing these details to your attention on your talk page, not the article talk page. I do not need an apology and am not asking for one, as I would like to believe that you acted in good faith and did not mean to make ad hominem attacks. Please refrain from doing so in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter. JonathanFreed 02:21, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Belarusian Catholic Church
Sorry, but would you like to explain why you removed referenced material from the article? --Kuban Cossack 12:45, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
- By all means. First of all information on how the thousands of Belarusians were forced into the Unia can be easily found, take for instance the whole Ukrainian Cossack uprisings and Peter Mogilla who shed quite a lot of blood defending Orthodoxy. Second the persectution of Belarusians, their language and culture during the interbellum Poland is also a sourced fact, as is the forceful confiscation of Orthodox proprerty. Finally the numbers of how many Belarusians willfully returned to Orthodoxy are also 100% genuine. Why did you remove them, that is another question. Last but not least the Uniate church was terminated from the inside via efforts of Bishop Joseph Semashko.--Kuban Cossack 23:05, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
I am sorry I did not know you were being thus attacked last February. Lima 18:34, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of varieties of Rice
Hi, this list is meant to be a list of rice species. The California entries you added are brand-names (as far as I know). Dyl 16:04, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Why do you want to delete the article. I believe that i wrote it with an NPOV, if you disagree, explain to me how, or edit it to NPOV. If you believe it contains original research (i dont) - see Understanding Roman Catholicism - Rick Jones (www.chick.com), tell me exactly which parts and i will provide sources. If you have another objection put it in the discussion. How is a summary of a particular argument a soap box. [edit] Re: Westminster
Sorry for troubling you with Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Westminster again. I noticed that all the other dioceses of Britain are named as '(Arch)Diocese of Somewhere' & only Westminster has 'Roman Catholic' in the page title. I am tempted to rename the page to fit the pattern of the other dioceses. (At the moment 'Archdiocese of Westminster' is a redirect anyway.) Do you think I am likely to upset many people if I do this? Should I just ignore it, maybe?
[edit] Lawrence Expressway
Hope you don't mind, I moved this article back to County Route G2 (California). The reasoning was three fold
- I'm eventually going to move all routes to this scheme to better unify them under one common naming scheme
- The old CountyName County Route LX scheme worked fine for some routes in one county but about half of county routes in California are cross county and currently the article resides at one counties name w/redirects for the other counties. That is something that had been bugging me since I started the Wikiproject and writing these articles. I had considered common names like Lawrence Expwy as a solution, however that was even worse as most of these routes have multiple names along their lengths. Also I considered seperating them out giving each county it's own article, however most of the roads have too little info to warrant an individual article for each county.
- After deeper searching I can find no evidence for the routes actually being named something like Santa Clara County Route G2. The state and counties refer to them as just County Route G2 or by their colloquial names like Lawrence Ex/Quito Road. My choice of the original name was based more on original research then actual fact like the new names are.
If you have any questions or comments please let me know. I'll be posting these points on the wikiproject page as well.Gateman1997 01:58, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Saints who Committed Crimes against Humanity
I object to the deletion of this page, and I object to the manner of its deletion without discussion. This was discussed. I acceded to the objections to the title of the prior article, and allowed the page to be deleted. I then retitled the article. Discussion was had, and the article was accepted.
If you are going to do this, the article on Saints needs to be listed as "disputed" unless it acknowleges that the conduct of some of the "saints" veered from general definition.M dorothy
- Just passing through, but even assuming this was not in violation of the previous deletion decision, this newest article is equally ill conceived. "Crimes against humanity" is a concept under modern international law that simply doesn't have meaning when applied with hindsight to long dead historical figures, let alone those for whom fact is difficult to separate from fiction. The fact that your genocide article was deleted means this wouldn't have a chance of surviving AFD, considering how much less focused the concept is. The central goal of going out of your way to emphasize what bastards saints have been is also problematic, however much I wish you well on that in other contexts. Postdlf 06:07, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Is there a possibility that you are involved in identification of polypeptides by mass spec?
The article specifically acknowledges that it is applying a modern standard retroactively.
Wikipedia has articles defining "war crimes" and "crimes against humanity". According to the articles in Wikipedia, the listed saints engaged in those activities.
I have taken the time to track down a list of saints involved in crimes against humanity. They were harder to find than I thought, but I made a list. There are probably other people out there that would like access to such a list, without having to go through all the saints to find examples. You are censoring this list.
The original title was "Genocidal Saints". The discussion focused on the title. I agreed that it was inappropriate. At the time I did not know how to change a title once begun. I therefore waited until the article was deleted, and then began with a new title meeting most of the objections.
I chose to use a separate article, rather than editing the main article on Saints. If you persist in this deletion, I wil edit the main article. If it is vandalized, I will object.M dorothy
This belongs back in your talk page:
"Wikipedia has a basic policy known as No original research. Unless there are published, reliable, respected, sourced, existing works calling various people war criminals, their inclusion on such a list would fall under this policy and not be accecptable content for Wikipedia at a seperate list or in any article. [edit] RCC Social Teaching
Hey, thanks for sourcing the Roman Catholic Church#Social teaching. For the right-to-life bullet, I replaced your link to Humanae Vitae, which discusses procreation and contraception, with a link to Evangelium Vitae, which does discuss the right to life in considerable detail. Also, if you're familiar with the subject, you might want to consider rewriting the whole thing. I don't know enough about CST to do that, but I know enough to see that the section (which was previously located at Catholic social teaching) is a questionable characterization of CST. Thanks again. --Hyphen5 12:46, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hypocrisy Is a Bad Trait for an Admin
Hello. If I may point your attention to this page, it appears you were caught in blatant flat-out hypocrisy. I'm considering putting you up on RFC. The last thing Wikipedia needs is a bunch of hypocrites as admins. --Analogdemon (talk) 20:10, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
- The redirect I deleted was occupying the place the article in question should have been located at based on the naming convention established at WP:CASH. Deleting a redirect with little or no history (the one in question had 2 edits, both by SPUI, and the second was a very minor change) to comply with established naming conventions is well established under the speedy deletion guidelines. SPUI wanted a redirect deleted to move a page that was located according to the previously named guideline to a proposed naming convention that did not gain consensus. Such a move, away from an article title supported by Wikipedia's naming guidelines, to a name that failed to gain the support of the community not. But file an RfC if you want, it's always good to bring things out in the open. Gentgeen 21:34, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Broken talk page
Hi, you may have missed my earlier message, but thought you should know that the talk page Talk:California State Route 85 is still incorrect (talk page name != article name) I've fixed the double redirect temporarily but I can't fix it properly as it involves a redirect deletion to make way for the move. [edit] Beer Categories
It has been suggested by User:BrianSmithson that the Beer and brewery categories should be renamed. The proposal has been supported by User:Syrthiss, and supported and expanded by myself. The notion is that the regional categories should follow the format of "Beer and breweries in Africa" /Europe/Asia/North America/South America/Oceania. "Brewers and breweries" could also be renamed "Beer and breweries by region". And all the countries should also be renamed (and merged if needed) as, for example, "Beer and breweries of Germany", "Beer and breweries of Britain", "Beer and breweries of Poland". The word in each case would be beer rather than beers to allow for general articles on beer culture in each region as well as individual beers. [edit] Rivermark and Guadalupe River
Hey Gentgeen, I don't have any maps I can send you (yet) to prove that I had the river correct, but I walk them both (San Thomas Aquino Creek and Guadalupe River) regularly and know which is which. In the map you sent, you can see the Guadalupe in the upper right, but the part where the Guadalupe River meets Rivermark isn't actually on that map. I'm new to wiki so I'm not sure how I'll fix it up, but I will. Thanks for the pic and the wiki'ing of the expressway. --StonewallCanyon 08:38, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- I concur with StonewallCanyon and I confirmed this with multiple maps, including a modern Thomas Brothers Guide, an old 1901 USGS San Jose quadrangle, and the 1876 Historical Atlas of Santa Clara Co. The San Tomas Aquinas Creek is on the west side of Lafayette Street, well outside the Rivermark area. Rivermark extends eastward roughly to the Guadalupe River (although the area immediately adjacent to the river had already been developed as the Mansion Grove Apartments and the historic Lick Mansion). The entire Sun, Rivermark, and Mansion areas together correspond to the property held by James Lick, which can be seen in the 1876 atlas as extending precisely from Lafayette St. (then called Alviso & Santa Clara Road) to the Guadalupe River. Additionally, the very name of Rivermark itself comes from its proximity to the river (not a creek) and you can see the Guadalupe plainly labeled on the map at Rivermark's web site. [24] Mditto 08:34, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- I stand corrected. It is closer than I thought. However, it is a good half mile from the river (I was in the neighborhood today and did some "original research" with my odometer). Additionally, I don't see what about this development merits its inclusion in the river's article to the exclusion of other properties actually on the river's banks. Gentgeen 01:56, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- If it were not on the banks, I would not be suggesting its inclusion. Here is a picture I took from the opposite shore (the San Jose side) looking at one of the Rivermark housing developments. [25] This picture shows the Guadalupe River, the levee, and the close proximity of the development. From your pictures, it is clear that you have visited part of the Rivermark development. However, the last phase of the Rivermark development is the area closest to the river, on the same side of Lick Mill Blvd as the Mansion Grove Apartments. --StonewallCanyon 19:23, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Pontifical North American College I am attorney for the Pontifical North American College in Rome and have come across the Wikipedia article on the College. From the history of the article I see that you, as an administrator, have made a number of useful and appropriate comments and changes to the article and am thus turning to you for advice and assistance.
The current version of the article, though short, contains a number of factual errors in its description of the College's activity and status. I would like to correct those errors, but do so in a way that they do not recur by reason of the (generally laudable) open editing policy of Wikipedia.
Any advice or assistance you could give would be most appreciated.

[edit] GoState links
Given your comments in Talk:California State University, can I assume it's an OK to remove similar GoState links in the San Jose State University article? NeoChaosX 20:25, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hello. Somewhat related to this, is there a way to verify that a user has been posting from a specific IP address? Around the time Michaelch7 posted the comment you replied to in that talk page, my user page [26] [27] and talk page[28] pages were vandalized by an anonymous user who accused me of being a vandal. Shortly after these vandalizations were undone, Michaelch7 posted in my talk page [29], also accusing me of being a vandal because I removed his links to the GoState campaign. While I'm certain he was the person behind the anonymous edits, I'm wondering if there's a way to confirm my suspicion. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to be asking, but I can't seem to find any pages here on Wiki that would allow me to find the IP a registered user posted under. NeoChaosX 07:58, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks again for the link; so far I have only got a comment that the work is an obvious puppet but no solid confirmation that it's him. Anyway, the guy continues to be a thorn in my side. When I put up an obvious POV fork he created up for deletion, he began using personal attacks, repeatedly accusing me of vandalism and agenda pushing. While I've put in a complaint in WP:PAIN for his antics, I'd like to ask if you could intervene in the deletion discussion, since you've dealt with his additions before. I'm sorry if this isn't how I should deal with the problem (or if it's not the right way to go about it), but his attacks are stressing me out and I'm running out of options on what to do. NeoChaosX 04:42, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi again. This guy is active again, although he's back posting from his original account, CSU Spartan (talk • contribs). Thanks for the warning, but you had better give other (recent) editors of that article similar warnings; otherwise, I shall give your notice all the attention it is due. 142.150.134.49 06:09, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] North America, Central America, Template: region
Dear Gentgeen: There is a POV issue going on in the articles about North America, Central America and even in the Template: region. If you look carefully into the recent history of the first article, you will find that there is some kind of political activism to exclude Mexico from North America. Well, this is obvious a POV issue and I tried very neutrally to rewrite the article. This certain anonimous user is taking advantage of his changing IP. You warned him about reverting the article too much, but he has contined doing such a thing. Please, I would like to know how to prevent this. We have been discussing this article with the other users interested and we kinda reached an agreement, but this anonimous user is making it hard for everyone. How can we nominate this article so only registered users can edit it? I have heard it is possible. His IP addresses are 142.150.134.49 and 142.150.134.53 Thank you very much. [edit] Categorization of SFO
Per Wikipedia:WikiProject California/Assessment, importance is to be graded based not on some category hierarchy, but on the subject's importance to California. For instance, Top articles are based on the following criteria: "Subject is a "core" or "key" topic for California, or is generally notable to people other than students of California. They define and determine the subject of the California WikiProject." San Francisco International Airport is clearly notable to people other than students of California - it's the second-largest airport in the state. One cannot form an understanding of modern-day California without discussing SFO. FCYTravis 05:20, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, it's as important as Pebble Beach. More important, in fact. Pebble Beach is just some golf course a few rich people visit. SFO is the first and last part of California seen by millions of visitors from around the world. The largest dedicated international terminal in America. An economic engine for the state.
- Here's an example of how transportation is essential to understanding California history. The huge Asian emigration to the Bay Area has helped turn SFO into the largest Asian air travel gateway in the United States. In turn, the Asian population and economic connections to the Bay Area have been bolstered by the Asian airline service. California is a state whose history is inextricably linked to transportation - from the Central Pacific to the Ridge Route to the Embarcadero Freeway to San Francisco International Airport. California has always been a state on the move, and thus I would argue that transportation articles are vital to a full understanding of our state's history, sociology and economy. [edit] Sorry to see that you did the unblock
I suppose you think folks should be allowed to troll at their pleasure...maybe discussing it with me first would have been the right thing to do. I might understand shortening it, but a complete unblock is simply ridiculous. If he resumes stalking me, I will reimpose the block as I don't have to put up with this nonsense.--MONGO 08:10, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Just FYI, This is the person you unblocked and is also why it's apparent he's trolling MONGO. Put the r in "dramatica". He is one of the prime contributors to ED and is also one of the prime contributors to personal attacks on MONGO and the prime reason why ArbCom banned ED links and articles. You should rethink your unblock. --Tbeatty 08:20, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Tbeatty, what someone chooses to do outside Wikipedia is of no relevance. Someone being a contributor to another website is not a reason to block them. Mongo, how has this Miltopia "trolled" you? Looking thorugh his/her contribs, I don't see any attacks or provocations, or at least nothing that justifies an indef ban. yandman 13:26, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
No matter who the user is off Wikipedia, the block in question was inappropiate and against policy. What part of the blocking policy supports an indefinate block in this situation? Was there vandalism? I didn't see any. Excessive reverts? I see a content dispute on two articles that the user didn't turn into a revert war, so no. Personal attacks, posting of personal information, or persistant copyright violations? Nope. Innapropiate username? Not that I can see. Even if you felt that the user was being grossly uncivil, "Blocks for gross incivility are controversial". Was the user posting crank information? I don't know, but that section reads, "Obvious cranks and users who aggressively and repeatedly violate fundamental policies may be blocked if there is a consensus among uninvolved users that it is necessary." Where were uninvolved users asked about the user in question's activites and consensus reached? Was this brought up at WP:ANI before you blocked? An indefinate block on a user is effectivly a ban, and banning is not within the rights of a lone-wolf admin as the first step in a conflict resolution. Had you imposed a 24 hour block, I wouldn't have even looked into the case. I would have just told Miltopia to go to sleep and come back tomorrow. Gentgeen 00:35, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- The least you should have done was to simply reduce the block period, rather than allow me to have to see that I have no rights to protect myself from his stalking. When admins don't provide some punitive action to deal with those whose efforts are to harass others, then they simply persist in their quest. Your unilateral unblock was just as lone-wolf as anything I did, so nect time have the decency to at least ask why a block was performed. Undoing other admin actions does zero to build solidarity on this website. Consider yourself lucky that you haven't had to deal with the trolls I have, or endure on the on and off wiki harassment I have had to put up with.--MONGO 04:48, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- MONGO, you do realise that admin powers are given abovce all to protect Wikipedia, not yourself? Of course he unblocked: you made a block that had no justification! Why would he have to talk to you about it? Hopefully, being an admin, he's competent enough to read a contributions page, and hopefully, being an admin, he's competent enough to see that none of Miltopia's actions deserved an indefinite block. This unblock wasn't unilateral, it was supported by every single page of the relevant policies and guidelines. And as for "solidarity"... this is exactly the type of thing new users are complaining about. Admins will always agree just because they're both admins? Is that the message we want to give out? That's exactly what we don't want. Finally, telling users that they're either with you or against you puts into question your capacities to continue contributing to a project based on consensus. I apologise for the rather harsh tone, but it's my opinion that you're way out of line, MONGO. yandman 08:53, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of Roman Catholic dioceses
Hi! I question your assigning List of Roman Catholic dioceses a B-quality. The list is far from complete - there are maybe 10% of all dioceses worldwide listed, and there's no organization for it. At best, it's a "start". I'm also not sure how important it is compared to getting national lists of dioceses up and maintained. Wikipedia doesn't need to have everything, and this list duplicates the work of Catholic-hierarchy.org (and Giga-catholic, possibly). Argyriou (talk) 18:12, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Catholic Church
Thanks for pointing out the error I made to the Encyclopedia name. But the link change from 'Catholic Church' to 'Roman Catholic Church' just corrects the article text to match the name of this particular church as determined by WP. 'Catholic Church' is just a redirect to the 'Roman Catholic Church' article. Hmains 04:51, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Every article I saw was careful to differentiate between 'Catholic' (i.e., Roman Catholic) church and 'Eastern Orthodox' church and never confused the two. Hmains 04:58, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
I wiil re-examine the articles. I also saw that the Eastern rites of the Roman Catholic Church had their own articles and links; I was just dealing with the link to 'Catholic Church' that that redirected to 'Roman Catholic Church' Thanks Hmains 05:49, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
I have re-examined my changes and believe them to be correct, based on the fact that Catholic Church is a redirect to Roman Catholic Church so my changes change nothing regarding what the article says other than to clarify meaning--my original intent. Hmains 07:18, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
My goal was not to get rid of redirects (you point to a 'how-go-guideline'), but to make the text of the article clear as to the subject being discussed. To me, 'Roman Catholic Church' is clear (and 'by the way', it is the name of the article); 'Catholic Church' is ambiguous. Thanks. Hmains 21:34, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] MediaWiki:Cite references link many format backlink labels
I noticed that you added "c"s and "d"s to the cite refs link, I found an article that has about 150 refs to the same link and busts the 130 limit giving cite error 7, any chance of getting e's and f's added? USS Wisconsin (BB-64) has refs split into 3 separate lines to avoid the current 130 limit. Thanks. --Dual Freq 19:55, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

If you have the time, would you check out User:SkierRMH/Diocese_Infobox and give me some feedback! Thanks much!!
