[edit] AfD Nomination: Global hummer
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but all Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem to me that Global hummer meets these criteria, I have started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.
Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Global hummer . Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.
Discussions such as these usually last five days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, an administrator will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article. Irongargoyle 21:51, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
I apologize for putting up such a trite page. I was new to the community and eager to contribute something and it was the first thing that came to mind. It won't happen again.user:geniusboy
[edit] CFI and the External links section at Orlando, Florida
Actually, kind sir/madam, I'm not a Wikipedia administrator. Only administrators of this website have the ability to block IP addresses; therefore, I'm not responsible for this action. I should mention, however, that I did, and do, oppose the linking of commercial websites not used in the production of article content. IP blocks are usually a temporary action. After the time for the block has expired, you may consider adding content to the article itself from your website, which in turn would justify the link. You might also want to review the guideline itself concerning the linking of commercial websites at Wikipedia:Spam. Regards, SwissCelt 01:00, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Orlando FL and the blocked IP address
From my talk page: We have noticed that you had our IP address blocked. It is the address for the ISP for CFI. CFI is one of the largest privately held entities in the South East United States. CFI owns Several resorts, several brand name hotels, restaurants and several other business across the United States. It is also the single largest non-Disney purchaser of Walt Disney World tickets in the world as well and many other central Florida attractions and invests several millions of dollars annually into the development of Central Florida and inparticular Orlando, Florida. Please note that in blocking this address, you are blocking over 20,000+ simultaneous potential Wikipedia users (staff, customers and guests from across the country) from access to the editing capabilities of Wikipedia. Many users of Wikipedia have made very useful contributions to articles from our ip address. CFI is also the parent company for numerous internet entities including the Orlando Area Guide. It is an informational website with the intent to be the most complete resource/reporitory for all Central Florida information including an Orlando wiki and numerous web 2.0 products. As manager of [Orlando Disney Hotels] I understand the necessity for maintaining a Spam free enviroment on Wikis and with respect to recent events...I apologise on behalf of some of the overly zealous members of my team. However, we do believe that as an integral part of Central Florida's life we do deserve some mention on a page dedicated to Orlando. [Orlando Disney Hotels] is the orlando repository that we wish to have on the Orlando, Florida page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Geniusboy (talk • contribs).
- Hi Geniusboy. As far as I can tell, you're talking about the IP address 65.115.136.98; if I am incorrect about this I apologize in advance. I did block this address earlier today, so first let me tell you why I did that.
- According to this link, I can see that this IP address modified somewhere between 50 and 60 articles today, and every single edit was the insertion of a link to your web site. Please see WP:SPAM and WP:NOT as to why this is considered against Wikipedia policies. This is why these edits were overturned (and, for the record, several other users overturned the edits, not just myself). The reason the block was instituted is that this IP address has been warned no fewer than five times for inserting the same links to articles, and three of these warnings were today. There is no question that the person using this IP address was intentionally breaking Wikipedia policy; these links have been inserted in some articles upwards of five times (see e.g. Discovery Cove) and the edits have been overturned each and every time, and the user page has been warned several times.
- If you don't think the block was justified, then you have a few options. The first is to wait until about 1pm EST tomorrow; the block will wear off by then. The second is to request an unblock if you think that the blocking was improper. The way to do that is to insert {{unblock|reason you think you should be unblocked}} on the page User talk:65.115.136.98. In this case, another admin will come along shortly and consider unblocking you. A word of advice: if you want to convince this other admin that they should unblock the IP address, you should strive to convince them that you won't immediately go back to violating Wikipedia policies. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask here or on my talk page. --- Deville (Talk) 02:00, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
