Template talk:Generate POTD C

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The intention of this template is to assist in generating condensed version Picture of the Day entries in the Picture of the Day monthly archive.

To use it open the Picture of the Day monthly archive choose the future date of a POTD entry that doesn't exist yet. Follow the edit link for the condensed version of that day's POTD to create an appropriately named blank page. Then populate the page using

Parameter list:

 1. Image filename
 2. Image description (used for the image's alternate text)
 3. Image credit
 4. Short image title
 5. Long caption (not used on this version of POTD, but allows cut-n-paste when filling out Template:Generate POTD T)

Optional parameters:

 • type: The image type. Defaults to "Photo".
 • size: The image size. Defaults to 300px.

Note the use of template substitution. You can then use almost same string to populate the text version of the POTD page. Changing the start to

{{subst:Generate POTD T|...

In practice, you may want to further edit the page generated. In particular, for the condensed version, the Long caption variable is unused so can be left blank.

As a concrete example; here is the string for generating the POTD for March 20, 2005
