Gentius
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gentius (Gentios, Genthios, Gent or Genti in modern Albanian) was an Illyrian name, borne by numerous Illyrians in the past, including:
- Gentius, king of Illyria, son of Pleuratus, contemporary of Perseus of Macedon.
The name appears to derive from PIE. I.e., *gene- means 'to beget', cognate to Latin gens, gentis (kin, clan, race) (see Illyrian languages). Template:Ancient-Illyrian-stub
