Generic Data Acquisition

Generic data acquisition (GDA) is an extensible and flexible data acquisition software toolkit for synchrotrons being developed by the synchrotrons Diamond Light Source and the SRS at Daresbury Laboratory. The GDA will also feature an error detection and recovery system, extensive logging facilities, data backup and a data processing framework.

The purpose is to develop a flexible data acquisition system - primarily for the SRS and Diamond.

The software is written in Java to be platform independent. It features easy to use graphical user interfaces and extensive hardware control facilities (including motor control, detector control and readout and any generic device that can be communicated to via RS-232, LAN and USB). Users of the GDA can interact with it through either a GUI or the Jython scripting language.
