General War (game)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
General War is the current working title for a proposed strategic-level wargame system, produced and developed by Amarillo Design Bureau Inc.
It is designed to represent strategic warfare between the factions of the Alpha Octant in the Star Fleet Universe, such as the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire, at the time of the General War between the Coalition and the Alliance. Much as the recently-released Federation Commander is designed to complement, rather than compete with Star Fleet Battles, General War will be designed as a fast-play equivalent of the existing Federation and Empire game system. It could be assumed that as F&E is considered the strategic companion to SFB, General War may become the equivalent for FC.

[edit] Proposed titles
Much as Federation Commander's release schedule has been structured around a number of core box sets, each featuring a traditional adversary of the Federation (such as the Klingon Border and Romulan Border box sets) General War is planned to be released in two initial releases, which are currently titled:
[edit] General War: Klingon Invasion
Which would cover the Klingons' assault on the Federation in Y171 (and possibly the Klingon attack of the Kzinti Hegemony in Y169) and would use the western portion of the above map, or the 'western' map from the F&E box set,
and
[edit] General War: Romulan Invasion
Detailing the Day of the Eagle, 4 January Y173, when the Romulans launched their own invasion on the already-weakened Federation - and possibly the Gorn entry into the General War in Y174. This would use the eastern portion of the above map, or the eastern map from F&E.
As the two maps from the F&E box set can be combined to create a map of the Alpha Octant, the two maps in Klingon Invasion and Romulan Invasion would combine into a wider map for larger games.
Additional provisional titles include
[edit] General War: Distant Battles
[edit] General War: ISC Conquest
Which would be focussed on the efforts of the Interstellar Concordium to patrol the borders between the rival Alpha Octant power blocs, during the ISC Pacification Campaign.
and
[edit] General War: Andromedan Invasion
Which would cover the onslaught by the Andromedan Invaders against the Alpha races, which given the unique logistical organisation of the Andromedans (based around the Rapid Transport Network, which is facilitated by the presence of Satellite Bases in strategic locations) would provide a distinct dynamic to a prospective Andromedan player. Also, given the central importance of Operation Unity in the Andromedan War, the inclusion of a map of the Lesser Magellanic Cloud (along with campaign rules for Operation Unity, as well as for the Magellanic races detailed in SFB Module C5) would be suited for such a supplement - though no indication has yet been given either way on what this particular supplement will include.
[edit] Development
At the time of writing, no game development has been put into General War - the current focus of ADB is to continue development of Federation Commander.
