General Wade Eiling is a military character and supervillain from DC Comics.
[edit] History
Wade Eiling was a military tactician who blackmailed the accused Nathanial Adams into participating in an experiment that turned Nathanial into the nuclear being Captain Atom. The experiment caused Adams to disappear for 18 years, during which time Eiling married his wife and acted as father to his two children. Eiling manipulated Captain Atom into serving the military until Atom left in disgust. His conflicts with the title character were a major focus of the 1980s Captain Atom series.
[edit] Becoming "The General"
When Eiling became aware of an inoperable brain tumor, he salvaged the indestructible body of the long-time Justice League villain the Shaggy Man (the second one) from the Pacific Ocean and successfully uploaded his memories into its body, after removing most of its hair to leave a military crew cut. Under the name "the General", he used the Shaggy Man's seemingly indestructible body for military power and conquest. In a battle against the Justice League, Eiling was teleported to a remote asteroid, until Queen Bee rescued him to become a member of Lex Luthor's new Injustice Gang. The second time he fought the Justice League, he was placed in the Phantom Zone, where he was trapped in an eternal battle against Orion's war dog Sturmer.
Having somehow escaped, he has since appeared in the JSA comics fighting Alan Scott, and also appeared as a member of the Society.
[edit] Other media
A significantly altered version of General Wade Eiling appeared in the Justice League Unlimited episode "Dark Heart", as a US Air Force General fighting the nanomechanical constructs. After the "Dark Heart" was shut down by the Atom, General Eiling and his soldiers confiscated the device, making suspicious comments about the Justice League satellite laser that had been used to hold off the nanomachines. General Eiling was a member of Project Cadmus as their military tactician. Later, he compelled Captain Atom to decide on his loyalty: to the USAF, or to the Justice League.
After Cadmus disbanded, Eiling was relegated as a "pencil-pusher". Unhappy with this situation, he broke into Cadmus Labs and took possession of the "Captain Nazi" super-soldier serum captured by Spy Smasher during World War II. He then injected it into himself, transforming into a giant, disfigured humanoid (similar in appearance to his Shaggy Man depiction in the comic books) in order to take out Superman and the Justice League in the episode "Patriot Act". However, he ended up fighting Green Arrow, Speedy, Shining Knight, Crimson Avenger, Vigilante, Stargirl, and S.T.R.I.P.E. (effectively the DCAU's version of the Seven Soldiers of Victory) before being persuaded to depart by a crowd of Metropolis civilians. He did warn the people who to turn to if the Justice League become a major threat.
General Wade Eiling was voiced by J.K. Simmons.
