General Post Office

The term General Post Office is or has been used by a number of postal and telecommunications governmental administrations worldwide, including:

- United Kingdom until 1969, see General Post Office (United Kingdom). After 1981 see Royal Mail and Post Office Ltd. for a continuing history of the British Post Office.
- Ireland: General Post Office is the name of the main post office in the Republic of Ireland, which was the headquarters of the 1916 Rising, see General Post Office (Dublin)
- Australia: General Post Office is the name of the main post office, in each state, although it is normally referred to by the name of the city in which it is located, i.e. Sydney GPO, Melbourne GPO, Brisbane GPO etc.
- India, see General Post Office, Mumbai. It is the term for the head post office in any major city.
- China:
- There was a General Post Office in Shanghai. The building is the headquarters of the postal services in Shanghai, but is no longer known as the "General Post Office".
- Hong Kong: General Post Office is located in Central. It has the headquarters of Hongkong Post.
- United States: the general post office is called the General Mail Facility and it serves as the primary collection, sorting and distribution point for a given area.
