General Beatrix is a fictional character in the role-playing game Final Fantasy IX. She is the head of the Alexandrian army, located in the fictional world of Gaia. A powerful general, Beatrix uses her sword, Save the Queen, to inflict massive amounts of damage on any enemies of Alexandria and Queen Brahne, the ruler of Alexandria. She also can use powerful Seiken sword abilities, such as Climhazzard and Shock, along with some limited, but powerful, White Magic.

Little is known about Beatrix's past. She grew up in a middle class family in the city of Treno. After several visits to Alexandria, she took a liking to the city. After her 16th birthday, she decided to join the Alexandrian army. After years of intense training and battles, she was promoted to Captain. This acquainted her with the head of the Knights of Pluto, Captain Adelbert Steiner. From the first time they saw each other, they were fierce rivals.

After more and more experience, Beatrix was promoted to general, and headed the majority of the Alexandrian army. She was sitting at the left hand side of Queen Brahne the night that Princess Garnet Til Alexandros was kidnapped by a thieving theatre group from Lindblum (Tantalus). Soon afterword, Queen Brahne acquired an army of soulless Black Mages from a mysterious man named Kuja. She immediately went with Beatrix and her army, and her new mages to invade Burmecia. The powerful army immediately defeated almost all of the Burmecian army (and the Elite Dargon Knights). It was there that Beatrix fought with one of Garnet's kidnappers (Zidane Tribal) and his companions (Vivi,Freya, and maybe Quina). She easily defeated them with her powerful Seiken, Stock Break.

Afterwords, the Alexandrian army, along with the black mages went to Cleyra where the King of Burmecia had fled. It was Beatrix herself who stole the Cleyrans' sacred stone. She again faced Zidane and his party, but effortlessly defeated them for the second time. However, Beatrix was beginning to wonder why the queen had to use the black mages. She became even more concerned when Brahne told Beatrix her plans regarding Garnet.

Back in Alexandria Castle, Beatrix was alerted by Zorn and Thorn that Zidane and his friends (now including Captain Steiner) were in the castle and were trying to free Princess Garnet from the Queen's prison. Following orders, she faced the four for the final time. She again won the battle. Zidane, almost KO'ed, convinced Beatrix to join their side and save the princess from being beheaded.

The twins, furious at Beatrix, unleashed a Bandersnatch on her and Freya. They easily defeated the dog-like monster. The two along with Steiner tried to escape with the rest of the group, but were separated. The group spent quite a bit of time after that evading forces that had previously been commanded by Beatrix herself. Soon, however, Beatrix and the group received word that the Queen had been killed by Kuja's eidolon, Bahamut, and that Garnet was now ascending to the throne. Beatrix, Steiner, and Freya quickly returned to Alexandria. They hurriedly prepared for Garnet's coronation.

Soon after however, Zidane, Freya, Eiko, Vivi, and Amarant left for Treno to participate in a card tournament. While they were gone, Kuja organized an attack on Alexandria with his Mist Monsters. While Beatrix's Army and the Knights of Pluto protected Garnet in the castle, Beatrix and Steiner defended the city's citizens from Mistodons. It was there that Steiner and Beatrix admitted their love for each other. Meanwhile, Zidane and his crew were rushing back to Alexandria. During the flight back, the Summoner's Judgement began and Eiko flew ahead to find Garnet. They met up with Garnet and Eiko on the roof of Alexandria castle. There, Eiko and Garnet worked together to summon Alexander, Gaia's most powerful of all Eidolons (the one Kuja was after, but was stopped by a mysterious man by the name of Garland.). Although Alexander was able to protect the castle from Bahamut, the city suffered much destruction and was almost destroyed. After the attack Beatrix's location was temporarily unknown. Zidane then awoke three days later in Lindblum and after conferring with Cid they set out to defeat Kuja.

While overseeing the reconstruction, Zidane's party found a way to travel to Terra, Kuja's homeland. There they fought and almost defeated Kuja. With the surge of emotion Kuja felt after narrowly avoiding death, he went into a Trance. With his new powers, Kuja completely destroyed Terra. The group escaped from Terra in the nick of time.

Back in Gaia, our heroes learned of the appearance of a giant glowing ball of energy above the Iifa Tree, called Memoria. This is where the group believed Trance Kuja was going to launch his attack on Gaia. Zidane's posse attempted to fly into Memoria with the airship Invincible, but were met by an army of flying dragons. Luckily, the entire Lindblum fleet flew in to help fend off the dragons. Still this wasn't enough. The real hero was General Beatrix, who flew in with Alexandria's finest ship, the Red Rose, and covered the Invincible while it entered Memoria. With her help, the group made it into Memoria and finally defeated Trance Kuja.

Following Necron's defeat, Beatrix is shown in the ending sequences of the game. She appears to renounce her position as a knight and head of the Alexandrian army, until she is confronted by Steiner, who begs her to stay so that they may "protect the queen together". She is shown in the last sequence of the game, holding Save the Queen high in the air with Steiner.
