Gender transposition
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gender transposition is a term in linguistics to describe the substitution of the masculine personal pronoun for the feminine form. For men this would be her swapped for his or him, and she for he; for women it would be the reverse.
Often used in gay (male) argot, it can be intended either as a put-down, a self-mocking appellation, a term of endearment, or neutrally - though might be considered homophobic when used by heterosexual people about a homosexual.
Use of the gender pronoun appropriate to a transgender person's gender of identification is not considered gender transposition and does not have the same range of meanings as slang gender transposition. The pronoun corresponding to a transgender person's gender of identification is simply considered the correct pronoun in the LGBT community and, increasingly, by mainstream society.
