Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ are a Turkish football club located in Ankara, Turkey. The club's former name was ASASSpor. After ASASSpor had a financial crisis in 2003, Gençlerbirliği have bought the club and changed its name to Gençlerbirliği ASASSpor. The emblem of the club was replaced with Gençlerbirliği's emblem. After OFTAŞ has signed a sponsorship deal with Gençlerbirliği, the clubs name was changed to Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ in 2006. Note that all players of this club belong to Gençlerbirliği with a special contract. In fact Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ is the reserve team of Gençlerbirliği and the average age of players is 21.
Recently, Turkish Football Federation has declared that there is no rule against Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ to play in Turkcell Super League in the case they gain the right to be promoted as long as they have a different chairman than Gençlerbirliği. This is contrary to Spanish and German leagues, where reserve teams can play in professional leagues but they cannot be in the same division with or in a higher division than their senior squad.
