[edit] Criticism
Is this really such a good picture for an encyclopedia? While it might be fitting for a personal photo album, an image of a geisha in an encyclopedia should only depict a geisha, and not take the focus away with some guy and a cigar. Furthermore, this image could be interpreted as Geisha-Asia-Woman-servant versus Western countries-man-master which is not good for an image in an encyclopedia either. 213.66.231.210 20:30, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
- See the original debate here. I think it's clear that a photo of a bunch of geishas just standing around looking fancy would be pointless, since it doesn't illustrate the point of their existence: to be a female servant/social companion. The image is not centered on the guy with the cigar, but on the geisha and her work. — 0918BRIAN • 2006-04-11 20:55
- I counted four objections to the picture in the discussion. I feel that "Today's featured picture" should be more unanimously liked. Shawnc 23:40, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
