Geary Street, Park & Ocean Railway

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Geary Street, Park & Ocean Railway was a cable car operator in San Francisco, which commenced operation in 1880. The line remained independent until the aftermath of the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906. It was then acquired by the city, and converted into an electric streetcar line, forming the first element of the San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) that was to come to be synonymous with transit in that city.
