The GE C30-7 is a 6-axle diesel locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems between 1976 and 1985 as an updated U30B. It is powered by a 16-cylinder, 3,000-horsepower diesel engine. 1,137 examples of this locomotive were built for North American railroads. A variant used by Conrail, C30-7A, was powered by a 12-cylinder, 3,000-horsepower FDL-series diesel engine. 50 known examples of this sub-type were built.

The early models of the C30-7 had four windows on each side of the cab, but in 1980 rules were enacted for making windows "projectile resistant," which eliminated the outer windows in later production; those same windows were filled in with sheet metal on the early units.[citation needed]
