Gavin Strachan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gavin Strachan (born December 23, 1978 in Aberdeen) is a professional footballer, who plays in midfield.

Strachan began his football career at Leeds United moving with his father to Coventry City in 1995. In 1996 his father, Gordon Strachan, took over the managerial reigns at Coventry City. He was loaned out to Scottish club Dundee F.C. in 1998, making nine appearances and gaining experience first team football. Back at Coventry he never really broke into the team, playing in just sixteen league games, without scoring. When Gordon Strachan stepped down as manager in late 2001, it wasn't long before Gavin followed him out the door.

In 2002 he was signed up by Southend. He once again struggled to break into the first team here and took part in only seven games in the close season. He was released in the summer of 2002 and quickly signed by Hartlepool United on a free signing. He enjoyed more success here and managed to play regular first team football for three seasons, appearing in seventy-two matches and scoring six.

During the 2005/2006 season, Strachan missed a large amount of the season due to a fractured foot against Blackpool, despite this he managed to complete the match. After recovering from his injury, he was loaned out to Stockport County in his third season at Hartlepool.
