[edit] Introduction
Gateway High School is located in Kissimmee, Florida. It is home to Osceola County's International Baccalaureate Program and is also the site for one of the largest Performing Arts Centers in the county. The mission of Gateway High School is to enhance the students' academic, artistic, social, and technological skills to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing and increasingly diverse society.
[edit] History
A new school opened in Osceola County, the third school in this county. The year was 1986. At first it was known as school DD. More than 90 names were suggested for this high school, thus it was narrowed to Silver Spurs High School and Gateway High School. However, county officials and board members decided to call the high school Gateway because they believed that the community should sell itself as a gateway to the world.
Students that would be attending this high school chose the school colors. Black and silver were chosen as the colors for Gateway because this color combination had helped the Los Angeles Raiders win. This was a favorite team among students at that time.
It became an International Baccalaureate school in 1997, and since then has acted as a magnet in Osceola County for bright and motivated students.
[edit] Extracurricular Activities
Gateway High School hosts numerous extracurricular activities. In the 2005-2006 school year, the school is most known for an active International Club, BETA, Drama Division, Debate Club, DECA, Key Club, Spanish National Honor Society, German National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, Senior Class, Junior Class, National Honor Society, Student Government, and Athletics Program. There are also committees in which students, parents, and teachers may voice their opinions such as SAC and STAC.
