Garrowhill

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Garrowhill [historically authentic name?] is an area of Glasgow, Scotland 6 km (4 miles) east of its city centre. The area of Garrowhill & Barrachnie has a population of 9,369 (ref:2004 census) - there wasn't a '2004' census, they occur every 10 years on the first year of a new decade; e.g. 1981,1991,2001 etc. Please get facts right.

Garrowhill is frequently, and incorrectly referred to as being part of Baillieston though statistically it is both larger in area and population than its neighbouring area. Garrowhill, historically was part of the lands of Baillieston, therefore it is wholly incorrect to say it is not now an integral part of the name Baillieston

The design and build of the original "Garrowhill Garden Estate" commenced in the 1920's [did it ? sources?] through 1930's with design [sources ?] by the Maxwell's of Baillieston House [who wrote a pamphlet and flogged off the land] and Charles Boot & Co.of Sheffield, who set-up an office which still carries out business on Glasgow Road [different companies these days, please get facts right]. The Garrowhill Garden Estate was managed by one of his directors at that time David Jagger (pronounced Jay-gir) who later became Garrowhill's first councillor due to his local popularity. [sources?]

The land originally comprised of Easter and Wester Barrachnie [did it?], which was owned at that time [was it?] by a Mr.Scott-Maxwell of Baillieston House and also included several acres on the eastern side of the original [can you specify what the original 'lands' were ?] "The Lands of Baillieston" estate. [sources ?]

The Maxwell's of Baillieston and Garrowhill House [are you sure? sources?] placed protection orders in place to protect many areas of Garrowhill, especially trees.[sources?]

The area was in the County of Lanark until regionalisation in 1975;when it was returned [thank you - the Rent Book is vindicated] the City of Glasgow.
