Garrett Brown
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Garrett Brown is a cameraman, best known as the inventor of the Steadicam. Brown's invention helped cameramen film while walking without the normal shaking and jostles of a handheld camera. The Steadicam was used in such films as Rocky, to film Rocky's running and training sequences, and Return of the Jedi where he walked with the Steadicam shooting film at 1 frame per second to achieve the illusion of high speed motion during the speeder bike chase.
Brown did the Steadicam work on over seventy films, and is currently Chairman of Steadicam and a trainer of Steadicam operators. Brown has also invented the SkyCam (for football games), DiveCam (which follows olympic divers) and MobyCam (an underwater camera which follows olympic swimmers). He is also the father of Jonathan Brown, who is a professional cinematographer in his own right. Both worked together as Steadicam operators on the film Bulworth.
